After seeing one of these installed last weekend, I just placed my order.

I sent 2sporty the money for the kit. I'm looking forward to protecting my car. The last repair was 800 dollars, so this is a small investment that can save me big later on.

Wow, these kits should come standard on all Elise and Exige/Exige S cars. I'll be ordering a set very soon, myself.

There is no other car for any amount of money that I would rather own and drive.

Installation was easy -- adhesive is very sticky, but it's possible to reposition if you don't get it right (as long as you don't push down too hard). My clam is modified, so I had to cut them down a bit, which was easy using scissors.

2sporty -- I think the winglet guards are twice as wide as they need to be. The spot that scrapes is near the license plate plinth. Make them smaller and you can reduce the price or make more money :-)

Thanks again!

Joe, thanks for the suggestions! You're correct, I thought that the guards that I made were a little larger than they needed to be, but I just made them that wide because I was paranoid. I guess if you were to really go down a curb so fast to scrape that far back, your clam would be in bad shape anyway. I could make a half as wide kit for less if anyone would like. $40 shipped.

The ragnorak racing kit is $90, which is very expensive for coverage that is less than optimal. There is polyurethane in areas that don't need it and no polyurethane in areas that are commonly scraped. In fact, you can't even buy this kit anymore because it seems like the owner cannot be contacted.

link to ragnorak kit:
http://www.ragnorakracing.com/catalo...46/1857876.htm

The Lotus Polycarbonate piece, which costs $300 just does not look good in my opinion.

here's a link to it:
http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/show...5&postcount=20

So I went and found some 3M abrasion resistant polyurethane and made my own a while ago. The stuff has an adhesive backing. I bought a 1/8 inch thick big sheet, (24x24) which cost me about $150 after shipping (unfortunately, you can't get this stuff at your local hardware store). When I cut out the pieces, I tried to cover the parts that would most likely get scraped when going up and down driveways and speed bumps. Let's face it, nobody is going to scrape the clam as far back as the ragnorak kit goes!! So far, it has worked well and has saved me from one gas station driveway scrape. Of course, it's not going to help you if you ram into a parking curb or go down a driveway super fast. I've tried thinner pieces of rubber, but they did not work nearly as well because they were not hard enough and concrete just went right through it. This polyurethane piece is pretty much invisible unless you bend down and look.

If you want a set:
If you would like a set, I take paypal to prtrbr111@gmail.com or money order/cahsier's check. I can also take credit card through my website. They will be $45 + $5 shipping. Feel free to ask me any questions about the kit as well! I'm glad to contribute to the Elisetalk community.

What is your website? I would like to order a set for my 07 Exige S which I should pick up next week. Thanks.

I wanted to order a set for my Exige S as well. Apparently, the kit is only available for the Elise at this time.

Congrats on your new Exige S!!

Sorry, I don't make them for the Exige or Exige S (don't have the templates).

I don't have a website to sell these either. Not worth the time to make one for the low volume of sales. I just send one to whoever writes me a check or paypals me after emailing or PMing me.

Would you be able to make one for the Exige if you could get under one? How about the Let's represent Lotus at SF Bay Area weekly meets thread, where they meet at Santana Row?

Yes, good suggestion. Actually a few people have asked me about an exige kit.

I usually do not wake up early enough to make it to the SF Bay area weekly meet, but I guess if someone at the GGLC autocross at marina (which I always attend) would let me make a template from an Exige, I could make it.

2Sporty: I purchased the same material you used on the Elise clam protection kits. Thanks for the info. I made a template for the Exige/Exige S front splitter in 3 sections...RH-passenger side, Center, and LH-driver side. They cover the bottom/under lip of the splitter and is flush with the splitter contour. I feel alot better with this added protection, but I still need to be ultra careful on those steep driveways.

You do that BEFORE you post. Through Photoshop or other picture editing software. Typically I don't go wider than 800 pixels for something to be posted on the 'net.

Rob: Thanks! I will limit my width to 800 pixels.

No problemo.

One advantage to the larger picture you posted above though is the fact that you can see the pieces better.

If you want to increase your profit margin on these (as brought out the material is sacrificial anyway) with probably no decrease in protection you may want to look into a HDU product (high density urethane) or expanded PVC foam like Komatec.

After installing these, I whacked my clam hard enough to partially peel one of these off. It's hanging in the breeze now, but the clam wasn't damaged :-)
