Gauge Bracket Installation Notes

Gauge bracket from Blackwatch Racing...install time (bracket only) is less than 30 minutes.

The only obstacle in the fed is the location of the OBDII interface, which is exactly where the top of the bracket installs. What I elected to do was simply shift the interface towards the driver side, putting the left screw back in the right hole on the connector. The connector is actually quite stable with the single screw. I considered mounting a shallow sheet metal screw in the left hole, but not knowing what's on the other side, I elected to leave as-is. With my luck I'd run a bit through something I shouldn't.

I then used the right OBDII screw to mount the top of the gauge bracket. I drilled a hole slightly off-center on the bracket. Thus, no drilling on the Elise at all. The bottom of the bracket is lined, and fits snug.

Regarding gauges, I ordered them from Summit Racing www.summitracing.com The 2 1/16" size fits perfectly, and they carry just about anything you want...pick your poison.

Here's one more picture. Also, I removed my side carpets. IMHO it looks soooo much better. A minor weight savings is also a byproduct. I'm still working on removing the velcro. The adhesive is brutal, but will come off without leaving any scars.

Nice install. Please provide the Trickster web site or ordering infornmation.

In the audio forum here there are articles dealing with getting wires to the trunk. In a nutshell behind the driver seat there is a wireing harness that runs to the engine compartment and another one further back than that leads to the trunk.

To get to the one behind the drivers seat: Remove drivers seat the rear speaker panel the foam insulation. I used a metal coat hanger and was careful to not nick the grommet(sp).

Just installed my bracket from Trickster and it looks fantastic! Thanks, Nick! And thank you for the install notes, Dave. Moving the ODBII interface was a great idea. Just a note... had a bit of a time figuring out where to drill the hole. I ended up sticking a piece of blue painter's tape underneath the dash, so it covered the area where the bracket would rest, including hole. I then laid the bracket in, traced the edges onto the tape, then using the pen punctured the tape where the hole was. When I removed the tape, I had a perfect template to lay back on the gauge bracket. The rest was a snap. Install time was about 30 min. for me as well.

Does anybody sell 2-1/16" gauges that get their input from the OBD-II connector? There are a lot of useful data streams on that connector, and how easy it would be.
