One of the best times I have seen was Kevin pulling into a Rice Nights with his Gallardo and stopping next to all the little Cobalts and Eclipses with the doors up. "Hey, I got Honda doors on my LAMBO!" he opened and closed them a few times then took off as they gave him the finger... Classic!

Taking the whole "showoff" issue out of the picture, the vertical doors do look like they would aid in/e-gress to the cockpit. It seems like much of the area near the hinge that forces taller drivers to pretzel in is removed and opened up. Would think this would be even better if you found yourself in a tight space trying to get a larger body (mostly legs) out of the car. So on the practicality scale the option makes some good sense, for posing though its kinda lame (everything in life seems to be a compromise).

...i've seen that car in person, and the pragmatic arguments in favor of scissor doors on an elise are very compelling - the original elise design concept doors opened vertically for a reason, after all...unfortunately, the hardware and installation pictured above, while perfectly functional, aren't anywhere near the same league of craftsmanship as our gorgeous stock hinges...

...to be fair, to fabricate a scissor door kit of comparable quality to the lotus hinges would be prohibitively expensive in anything less than stock production runs...

Doors can be closed very easily . Hinges can be polished and molded for the same price , just takes a extra day . This car was done with a very very short time frame. Most cases it would take 3 days to build . This car was done in a day. Functions perfect .

Believe I've read that the USA Motorsport version saves around 20 lbs of weight as well... If that's not suitable for an Elige, then what is?

The original Elise design didn't have doors

I find that a hard to believe - the stock components aren't exactly cast iron. The only part changing in the hinge (unless you remove the door beam which would compromise safety) and without taking it off to weigh it I doubt it even weighs 5kg (~10lb)

I've seen that car in person. It might be a crappy cell phone pic, but it isn't a photoshop.

I really like how the wiring that runs from the front of the door jam to the door has been hacked up and extended. It appears that it just "dangles" in the air when open, I wonder where it goes when you close the door (free to stick out of the door seal?). I can't imagine that the wiring will last for too long that way.
