How to Hang Your Hardtop?

I'm cleaning my garage, and 6 years of toy collecting is catching up to me. Two cars, a motorcyle, four bikes, two sets of extra wheels, stock suspension from two cars, roof rack, trailer rack, the doors from the Jeep, ladders, skis, golf clubs, tools, extra brake pads, and...

... my hardtop.

I'd like to keep it somewhere safe and out of the way, but it's kind of unwieldly. I'm thinking of hanging it, up and out of the way, preferably on a wall, though the ceiling would work.

What have people tried, successfully? Pics?

Lotus sells a bag specifically designed to hang your top on the wall.

No pics at the moment, but...over one end of the garage, I have a storage loft. I bought some padded, screw-in C-hooks (large ones), and installed four of them under that loft surface. The hardtop slides into place, just need to be sure it's not moved too high up and hitting the bottom surface of the loft while sliding it back.

+1 for this bag then go to Sears and buy one piece of the channel they sell that you can hang cabinets and hooks on. Two hooks and your in business.

I'll try to take a picture later and post when I get a chance.

I ended up using a rubberized hook, 3 feet of metal chain, and two S-hooks to hang it by the front mounting bolts. Less than $5.

I'm about to make my own out of some soft material. I think I can make one for $20. It just won't have that cool stitching which is, I'm sure, the reason it's $207!

I can't think for the life of me what the heck they're called - but these "rings" that are on the corners of blue plastic tarps...

Couldn't you just cut two holes in the stock velcro hardtop cover... plunk these in and hang it up on hooks? Would be a LOT cheaper!

You'd be missing the logo but big whoop.

Anyone know what these are called and how they're installed?

They are called "grommets" and they are cheap and easy to install. You place the half the grommet where you want it installed, with the form (the large disk in the photo) underneath it. Then you place the other half on the top, and using the other part of the tool (the long bolt looking thing in the photo) on top of it, you hit the "bolt" with a hammer. It should then punch through the material and roll the edges of the halves of the grommet and lock them tightly together with the material sandwiched in between. It's simpler to do than it was to attempt to describe. Here's a link to a kit at Harbor Freight, but Home Depot and Lowes should have them too (as well as most any decent hardware store).

Thanks Tim! That will do nicely. I have a Harbor Freight a couple of miles from my house that I frequent all the time... must have missed these!

Sorry for the hijack. To bring back on topic, I plan on hanging my top on one of the hooks similar to the ones holding the large ladder on the right.
