Large Flat Spot in Center of Windshield

After being caught in a rainstorm last weekend in my 06 Elise, I discovered that there is what appears to a large flat spot in the center of the windshield. The windshield wiper does not contact this ellipse shaped spot when crossing the windshield and as a result there is a large water covered area. The windshield wiper edge appears to be about 0.010" above the windshield in this spot. The spot is approximately a little larger than a standard size football. I changed the standard wiper blade to a Bosch Icon 424A and still have the same problem. It appears that the windshield was laid on a flat surface while the glass was still semi molten during manufacture. I consider this to be a safety problem due to poor visibility and I am afraid the windshield will need to be replaced by the dealer. I have no idea how cooperative they will be warranty wise and if they are, what the lead time is for a windshield. What if any problems has anyone encountered with windshield replacement by the dealer and has anyone else experienced a similar problem with a flat spot? I have searched the site for this type problem but came up empty handed. Any help would be appreciated.

Dave

I have not noticed this problem on either of my cars.

We have a windshield wiper?

Actually, I have to say my wiper isn't very good either. Course it could be because it is 2 years old. The few times I used it, I noticed there being gaps in the contact path with the windshield. I just figured I needed to replace it.

I second the RainX idea, though. You will hardly have to use your wipers again.

That happens when they temper the glass.

THere's an industry name for it. They call it bad tempered glass.
