Larger Mud Flaps?

Has anyone looked into the possibility of getting larger mud flaps for the Elise?

When I got my car I got it without starshield. That was a mistake and I had the starshield added last week. I've taken the car for one spirited drive since then and I already have a couple little tears in the starshield. I fear it's not goign to last long.

The rear fender area takes such a huge beating from the larger sport pack wheels.

I am very tempted to try to get some wider mud flaps made to cover the extra width of the sport wheels/tires.

My problem is with the Exige front flaps. I figure they could be extended downward further, at least for the track. I's a bummer to have to wory about protecting the starshield. I'd rather stop the problem near the tires.

splash gaurd fix

To fix the splashguard problem I simply bought a set of universal mud flaps from pepboys. I also purchased INDUSTRIAL velcro from walmart. I then lined the inside of the front fender with the "Hard" part of the velcro as well as inside the original flap. I then lined the universal flap with the "Fuzzy" part of the velcro. The added protection is amazing! The extention I put on has taken quite a beating already and I only have a 160 miles on the car. They have been on since new. It don't look too bad either. When I get to where I'm going, I simply tear them off. They also stay put when on the road. If you like I can post pics.

Even better if you include a link to the product. Pep Boys ships most items.

Thanks.

It would be awesome if Sector 111 designed a set that kept the stock look but were wider and lower.

I've been looking at mine and it wouldn't be hard to use the stock ones to create a mold and modify it to produce the product but I don't know if I'm willing do undergo that for my own car since I have no interest in building and distributing them myself.

One option is the Powerflow Premier Fit A 4406 in plain black, which you can see at powerflowinc.com. I bought a set at GI Joes for $4 and mounted them to the stock mudflaps with 2 each auto panel fasteners from Ace ($0.85 ea) and a pop rivet at the top Also used 5/16" push nut bolt retainers from Ace to hold the panel fasteners in place.
Photo coming later.

First photo shows the original installation.
Second photo after cutting one-half inch off bottom.
They were rubbing on driveway curbs so I cut them because I was worried about the fragile mounting system. That was probably a mistake, but the amount of track rubber on the sides of the car seems to be less than with the stock mudflaps.

Someone should make larger front ones and rear ones that mount on using existing mount points or ones that clamp on to inconspicuous areas.

Sector111
Colvindesign

I hope tou guys see an oppurtunity here.
Some thoughts I have:
The front can use the existing mount points, doesn't look too hard if someone can just mold larger ones.
No rear ones exist as far as I know and even small ones will do the job there, if those can be easily removed, let's say the night before a track day - that would be a nice sell point.

Come on let's see it!

Geez anxiety, I knew you put the larger front mud flaps on but when I re-read your post I realized your saying you tear them off every time you get to where your going and put them back on just before you drive off to somewhere again?

wow, that's more protective of the car than I am!
You got Starshield right?

Sector 111.....how about an easy to attach model (larger front mud flaps)from your company?

The punishment for the larger A048's is a muddy mess on the sides of the car.

Can you please do it?

if you don't mind spendng $100, u can buy these flaps and cut/drill new mounting holes for the Elise. I use em on my car and they stood up to many off road excursions

Or, i have a friend in downtown LA that's selling used ones for $75. PM me if you want his contact info.

Rallyarmor are great folks. They are in my neighborhood, and if enough people were interested in this and at the price of the flaps they offer now, they would probably be up for making a custom version for us. Unless of course the Elise aftermarket industry were going to jump in and do this.

I was hoping they'd make some stuff for the AllTrac Celica crowd, but we didn't have enough interest, esp. at those prices. So I'm without mudflaps on my rally-esque car...
