Leather Console Question??? - LotusTalk

I recently purchased a black leather console for my '05 Elise. What are some of you doing with the cupholder that is behind the console? If I leave it the factory grey/aluminum color it will not match my black leather console. Are you guys getting these painted or leaving them as is?

Also, how long is it taking for these consoles to arrive from the trimshop? I placed my order about a month ago through my local dealer and he told me it could take about 12 weeks. Thanks.

The piece you're talking about is not a cup holder and if I remember correctly, this is the piece that has an adapter which also gets covered in leather. I guess you have (3) options here:

1. Leave it alone if it doesn't bother you
2. Paint it or
3. Have it wrapped in leather

I prefer #3 but then it becomes contagious and next you're gonna want to do the a/c surround cover, the door sills, instrument cluster...do you see a pattern forming?

Black leather center console was the important change...

I used Duplicolor Vinyl & Fabric coating for many components in the car. Unlike regular paint as it seems to be absorbed and does not scratch or chip.

Mine took about 10 weeks. I actually had the console, plus the rear piece plus the a/c surround done in combo of perf black leather and black alcantara (shift boot). I would NOT recommend a/c surround getting covered as it really no longer fit well and actually made grabbing the knobs harder. I ended up taking my original a/c surround off and painting it satin black. With both the center console and rear piece covered, the a/c sorround was the last of the cheesey looking plastic pieces to hide.

Odd, I had my console completed by the TrimShop and they did both the center console and rear bin. In fact they created tolarance (trimmed the plastic) before wrapping to make sure the overlap fit to the center console was proper.

This was part of the service. They did not offer this to you? I had mine done in early 2006. Maybe things have changed?

Both my center console A/C console & rear holder were painted by myself.

You actually removed your center console and the Lotus Trimshop wrapped it in leather?
