Lotus cup holder

I just finished installing the Lotus cup holder and the screw to the right of the track which holds the unit to the underside of the dash won't tighten fully. There are 4-5 threads still exposed though the contraption seems to be securely held to the underside of the dash. Has anyone else had this problem?

Aside from that, the assembly doesn't seem as if it will hold a reasonable amount of weight. I guess it may not be designed to, as the inner diameter of the ring is pretty damned small. Perhaps I should have searched for another solution.

Cool Lotus cup holder

It may be too late for you, but perhaps for other Elise owners this might be helpful. I bought two cup holders from Sector 111. They are perfect. They are called "Darth Holders". They install in seconds and can be removed as quickly! The price is right..$39.99! No screws....just held in place with a "high-tech sperical elastomeric retention device (a.k.a. Racquetball)"!--MW Dallas

Thanks for the idea, but I wouldn't even buy a sandwich from Sector111.

I'm not going to go into specifics and start slamming a vendor, but I will state that I am extremely dissatisfied with their lack of communication. As such, I will never purchase another product from them. My experience may be an isolated incident, however once is enough for me to write them off as a viable option.

You'll kick that thing everytime you to exit/enter the car, unless you curl your legs to your chin.

Are you using the correct screw for each hole. I did this last night (from 10:45pm to 11:00pm-thanks blackwatch for getting me the cupholder so quickly) and the hole on the far passenger side does not go into the dash, it just bolts the OBD II plug to the bracket.

With the rivit in place it feels quite solid on the dash even with a can of diet coke in it.

If you do have the correct screw in the correct place, I would suggest jamming something up there to see if it is blocked above.

My comments from another thread:

The cup holder thing is making me nutty, too. On long trips I want to be somewhat comfortable.

I have considered:

o The Darth: rejected because I use that little slot it will absorb
o A window holder: rejected because it will rub on the paint.
o Cupholder.com: rejected because I do not want to use two sided tape
o Mini cup holder: rejected because I want the floor space, plus it looks like it will get kicked over. (I have considered cutting a hole in the drivers sill panel and mounting it permanently there, too.)
o Euro Junior: rejected for the same reason as the Mini and cupholder.com
o The Blackwatch holder: rejected after reading some opinions. It looks flimsy, too.
o The mysterious $130 Lotus cup holder intrigues me, but I can't find a photo of it. Does anyone know where it mounts and what it looks like?

I think at this point I'll build my own. Let me throw the idea out there and see if anyone can think of an obvious problem.

Right in front of the console is a brace, with nothing immediately above it. I was thinking of a making a clamp (cushioned, of course) with a cup holder or two right on top of it. This would make it easy to remove, make no permanent changes to the car, and likely hold well. The only bad thing is that a tall driver like me would have to lean forward to retrieve the drink.

Construction is a challenge, of course. The prototype would be a bunch of Home Depot material.

Thanks,
Chris

Just pony up the $128 for the correct one and don't drink anything bigger than a can of coke or a smallish drink.

Bring a bottle of water with a cap? Cheaper than a cupholder and better for you too.

So that is what a $128 cup holder looks like, eh? I think it looks quite nice, actually. Hmmm...$128 for a cup holder.

Just got a cup holder from Robert at Blackwatch and I couldn't be happier. It is only $13 and has gimballs so the liquid doesn't splash around inside the cup as much. But I have not track tested this cup holder yet.

I have two of the blackwatch ones but they cut into the passenger's space unlike the $128 one.

So now I have three cupholders when I am alone and one when I am not.

Thinking about adding two of the darth ones as well.

My advice is to buy the genuine lotus cupholder.

The Mini Mania cup holder is awesome and mounts just by slipping it under the floor mats. No loss of passenger foot room if you mount it next to the shifter console.

"Dude, you need more cup holders!"

Well I drink a few cans of diet coke every day on the commute and I like keeping spares around too.

Can you fit a bottle of water in the Lotus cup holder? It is an interesting design from an aesthetic point of view but what can it actually hold?
