Lotus trim shop door inserts installed!!
HI All,
Well my Lotus trim shop ordered yellow door inserts arrived today. Pulled the panels and installed, took about an hour. Big thanks to Marianne at Hangar111.com and Mel Broome at Lotus trim shop, first rate quality. I was very pleased with how close the yellow leather matched the solar yellow.

How long did it take for you to get your inserts?
I ordered a black leather console about 8 weeks ago and it still has not arrived. I was told it was shipped by boat... no fedex I guess. Looks nice by the way! |

spectre - I originally ordered about 8-10 weeks ago, received the whole door panel in yellow, not the inserts, guess they felt guilty about the long wait and the fact that I paid for fedex shipping so they got the inserts out right away. Originally told 6-8 weeks when I ordered. So since yours came surface mail that adds anywhere from 3-4 weeks. So I'd suspect you'd get them in a week or two.
Don -nope, I just took a chance and ordered from www.hangar111.com they've got the whole trim shop list on their website and they do a lot of work with the lotus trim shop. I originally went to my dealer Lotus Atlanta, the parts guy had no idea what I was talking about. So went with hangar111.

I ordered the blue tear drops and center console this week. Can't wait to do it. Yours looks really good.

Yep pleasantly surprised by the close leather match.
I'm toying with doing the following, not sure yet tho. Shift knob and brake handle painted yellow, center console and a/c surround painted yellow. Not sure if what else I'll do.

That's correct. 215 for just the inserts and including express shipping.
You know the items got to the US in 3 days, and sat in a customs holding for 4 days!!

Nice! I am ordering some this way now. I tried many months ago to get the exact same thing. Local dealer: no idea. Called UK dealers: at least they knew what I was on about but as I was in the US they said call Lotus trim shop directly. Nothing happened. Spoke to Clyde from Lotus, and he said send him an email directly, at which point the effort exceeded my careometer. What you experienced, wrong initial shipment aside, seems much better so I'll give it a go.
Installation easy? |

Installed mine over the weekend (along with the instrument barnacle). Had no problem going through the dealer parts department... well late last year it took them a few months to get setup. It's a pretty easy install. The hardest part was the plastic torx type screw they use near the door handle, they both stripped out so used a pair of pliers to turn them.
I'll take a few pics in the next day or two and add them to Chris's thread. Last edited by LarryB : 08-28-2006 at 02:01 PM. |

WHOA guys slow down on the orders. not to put a stifle on you but go to your local trim shop...i talked to a buddy of mine that said he'd recover these thing with real leather for like 150-200US $ and they'd be done in 2 days!! actually only take about 4 hours!
could do the entire interiorseats and doors for like 1200$ real leather completely. |

Well fly that's true but I wanted to keep my originals if I didn't like the yellow, to do that probably add another 60-70 for the two bare inserts so maybe a bit faster but certainly no savings.
Crudson, the inserts were straightforward. took an hour to do. pull the panels, the hardest part was to get those plastic one way threaded things that hold the inserts to the door. Easiest is to just cut them off, but I wasn't sure they could be replaced, I now know they can. Got to say www.hangar111.com - ask for Marianne, they do lots of biz with the lotus trim shop they can get virtually anything you want done even if not on the price list. I highly recommend them. FYI, I did email Lotus of Atlanta to mention they should really look into this service for other customers, explained I tried originally to go through them, they had no idea what I was talking about. I'm happy.

Chris...the door panel inserts look awesome. A couple weeks ago, you posted some pics of the Lotus Sport mats you ordered from Hangar 111. I looked at them on their site, and was confused by the different footrest configurations. Which ones did you get (single or double footrest? I'm thinking it was the single) Also, did you have to put holes in them or did they come pre-holed? Thanks in advance.

Hot, not sure about what you mean by foot rests, but they're exactly the same construction as my standard mats with the addition of the lotussport stuff. I did have to cut the holes, I laid the originals on top and used as a guide. Larry, the leather work looks great! What was the cost of the binnacle (barnacle for those nautical minded types! )
