Made a bracket to fix the roof bulge

Not as extravagant as the one on the Exige or Sport Elise, but it is functional. I took some bar stock aluminum, and bent it into an L. I drilled a small hole for a bolt and nut for the roof side. I took the roof off, and drilled a small hole in it so the bolt would catch and and sit in there. I then drilled a slightly bigger hole on the other side. I removed one of the factory screws that holds the rear roll bar cushion in place, and used a longer screw in my bracket to hold it down. I wrapped the whole piece in black automotive carpet. Simple and functional!

Ok, they are out of focus and badly lit. But you get the idea.

I haven't tested, but I assume so. I only had to pull it down a little bit to make that noise go away. This bracket pulled it down as far as the roof would flex.

Do you have any pics of how the bracket mounts to the hardtop? I need a solution like this for my Exige. I'm wondering if there is any way to make something like this that clips on without any bolts, but maybe with an adjustment in the bar for tension. Anyway, I think its pretty cool to see these DIY fixes

Thanks,
Joe

Hey, I didn't know I had a roof bulge! Don't be pointing out problems I didn't even know I have now! (actually hard top won't be on for months so hopefully I forget to even look by then)

All I did was drill a small hole horizontally in the top. In the bracket I used a small machine screw and nut as the catch through the bracket. I use the screw to stick in the hole, and then when you pull the bracket down it pulls the roof down.

This looks great! I have an '07 Exige and it has the new center brace. I didn't know about the problem with the hard tops until I saw a post here. If I didn't have the factory fix I would be trying out yours! Nice work!

Is this what is missing from the CF Cup roof just released by Composites? There's a thread up about it. Looks like it's a separate piece we can add to the CF top if need be.

Why did Lotus add this bracket? Sorry if it was posted before.

I think that this is covered by the Lotus warranty. I went to the dealership and told them that I couldn't get the read edge of the top to be flush, which causes a whistling noise, and they said that there's a fix to drill two holes.

For cross reference, see the thread on Hard Top Owners... Need Help NOW! Identify this part please....

Has anyone ordered this bracket? I see it is listed on LotusGarage.com as:

27a Clamp Kit, rear retention
SKU: A120V0347S

Do they stock these things? I don't want to order one and wind up waiting 3 months for it...
