mod to cover/color the bare interior aluminum?

with all the interior modifications going around, has anybody ever done anything to all that exposed aluminum? other than just going and carpeting the whole thing, what else could there be?

What?

Cover the beautiful bare aluminum???

Well to each his own, I guess. Short answer - I've never seen any Elise with such covering added. Carpet would be easy enough though.

Edit - attachment could be easy; the stock side carpeting is held in place partly by velcro, you could use a similar method so it's not permanent.

Yikes!!! That is one of the most beautiful parts of the elise. Loved it my S1 and in my FED elise too. If you are thinking over covering the aluminum then I would vote that you sell your elise and buy a civic. I am actually working on Two mods to accentuate the raw aluminum...more details in a new thread when I am done or see them at LOG 26.

How would covering the aluminum make the car more comfortable?

I like comfortable too but the quintasential elise is raw. We are elise drivers not Eclat drivers. I have owned one of those also. When I want really comfortable I drive my wifes Toyota.

Comfortable would be for my butt on the 8 hour jaunts. Covering the Aluminuim would be more civilzed not comfortable. If you want civilised, we could import you one the the Europa S.

One of these days I'm still planning on removing my side carpet to expose more aluminum, and see if it looks goofy or not with that little "channel" that would be left there. I wanted the leather and the power windows, but would of prefered them not to cover the aluminum on the sides.

I was in mine 8 hours yesterday. Ran throught the tail of the dragon 5 times. At no point did I ever get uncomfortable.

There you go. The only bare aluminum showing in the interior is the inder-dash tray and the steering wheel hub. It looked kind of nice...in a Thunderbird kind of way.

One of the things that I've always loved about the Elise is that it ISN'T full of carpet. Other than a simple floor mat, what purpose does carpet have in a sports car? I suppose that if you don't like the aluminum color you could do something to change it, but don't use carpet - it just doesn't make sense.

Now, if you're really crazy how about stripping the tub bare and having it anodized...

Cover up the aluminum frame? Some carpet is ok but I would not go so far as cover everything.

In my opinion that would be shameful - this is one of the reasons the Elise stands out. But to each his own. If you do, maybe do it in such a way where it is not permanent?

An inch of top soil and some grass seed. That way when the tub leaks you can water the grass...
