No. I broke out the RHS and inserted the Multivex in the existing OEM shroud. It was a bit tedious, but it looks fine[/quote]

KG,
Actually, it's not necessary to break out the stock mirror glass. You can
carefully separate the black mirror frame (with the glass in it) from the painted mirror housing, then remove the stock mirror from the frame. Makes it a lot easier to position the Multivex mirror so it looks stock. There are tabs in
the black frame that locate it in the painted mirror housing. Carefully push the
tabs in to release them, especially the one on the inside edge (closest to the
door), and the frame will pop out of the housing. You can fill the gap between
the Multivex glass and the housing by applying black RTV from the back side
of the mirror (which will result in a smoother bead of dried RTV than applying
it from the front). Oh, and be SURE to mark the housings for "drivers side" and
"pass. side", and pay attention to the mirror alignment (which are marked for
side of car and outside edge).

I did not break it out voluntarily

By all means, people should by from you, since you were the ones that went to the effort of fitting them to the car. I don't believe that you can get them anywhere else for less, so you should get the business and your cut of the profit for the work you did.

It might be helpful if you were to post your link to your website here again so people know where to go to order...

As for people trying them - I've had many fellow Elise owners sit in my car at gatherings to try the mirrors. They have all indicated that "I've got to get me some of those". The mirrors really are a great addition to help the visibility and remove the blind spots.
Thank you SO much Tim!!

We just got 4 orders today and I am so grateful for the code of ethics Elise owners have demonstrated. I have been travelling and dealing with a very sick parent, so I have been AWOL from this forum for awhile. Coming home to this thread and those orders made my week. THANK YOU!!

Once again, our site is www.safetymirrorsonline.com (per the suggestion below) and be sure that your loyalty and business is greatly appreciated. Take care, all!! DRIVE SAFELY!!

I just got mine on after letting the box sit on a shelf for a few months. This was really stupid to not do a long time ago. These are awesome-and on the second drive after the installation, they let me see that some old geezer in a Buick was on a course for my rear corner. There was no way I could have seen her without these mirrors.

I used the method that darkSol posted (thanks David!) and they look factory original. I was able to remove the original glass intact; it just took a little patience.

QUESTION: To those using the mirrors for backing up. The driver's side did not seem to give the correct perspective for backing up. What is the experience of those using the driver side Mulitvex for backing?

BTW, the RHS was replaced because the OEM was broken. A little tricky, but if anybody is interested I will post the procedure that I used and a pic. -KG

You are correct SAElise. It took about a week to master. I was so pleased that I bought a LHS for my truck and it is fabulous.

I have the LHS only in my truck. Works great. OEM RHS is OK. I have both in the Elise and recommend them. Side visibility is poor without them. -KG

If anything, you need it the other way. The Multivex is a slight improvement on the passenger side (not absolutely necessary, but desirable), but I'd consider it a necessity on the driver's side.

Go for both of them, you will be glad you did...

My Multivex Installation...

Just installed my set of Multivex Mirrors and I love them. I followed a lot of what was already documented here, trying to learn from others’ mistakes. Bottom line, this mod is cheap, easy, and worth your time, money and effort. The cosmetic issues some have expressed concern about are nill compared to the benefits. If you are holding off because of the imperfect cosmesis, I would hold off no longer…

The mirrors come out of the box like pictured. The imperfections mentioned are the rough edges, the fact that the fit is not 100% perfect, and the fact that the mirrors stick out of the housing once mounted. The manufacturer recommends using the provided stickies (already strategically placed for optimal contact on this mirror, and guaranteed to last in all weather conditions), so I left them on for insurance, but I suppose if you want to use just adhesive, you may get a slightly closer fit.

My solution to the jagged edges was the electrical tape all around, as many have done here. I would stress ensuring that your application of the tape does not create any tension on the tape itself anywhere – use a long enough strip. Also, don’t tape to the very edge of the mirror face – stay back about a millimeter or so. Otherwise, every time you wash the mirror later, you may catch the tape and rip it away from the mirror, or make it collect dust on its sticky side.

After I taped all around, I trimmed the excess all around as well, to leave maximum available surface area for contact, but to avoid taping over the stickies. In order to avoid bunching up around the corners, I had to cut “teeth”, so it lays down flat (see pictures).

Last step was a thick line of adhesive, leaving the bottom open, and ensuring not to cover the stickies (even after you stick the mirror on – the goop will spread!).

I left the blue tape on overnight to hold some extra tension on the mirror. The fit is not perfect, but it’s pretty damn close. Most edges are too close to notice a gap, some have maybe a 1mm gap, and in a few spots, the gap reaches about 2mm – you can see the old mirror underneath in those gaps.

When I stuck the Multivexes on, I tried to get them as close as possible to the TOP and the INNER edge of the housing – I figured I will not be able to see the bottom or the outer edge. If I had to do it again, I’d align with the BOTTOM and the INNER edge – I did not realize that I sit so low that the bottom shows more. I suppose it depends how tall you are…

Final product.
I opted not to spread black silicone around the edges to seal the gaps, as the mirrors looked good enough for me. I actually like that they stick out a bit – you see less mirror housing, and more mirror itself, which is what I need to see anyway.

Total time commitment: One episode of Law and Order: SVU, and another 20 minutes in the garage.

Happy driving
luke

Went from Multivex to raceVIEWS

Multivex - As you all know, simple install, great product, inexpensive

RaceVIEW (minus 2 more lbs) not too bad of an install, I did have to fish for screws on the 1st side I did, good product, awesome look and functionality, @ night 100X better than multivex
