When you use different tape you can shape it around the edges of the mirror so the points of contact are greater. I am just concerened that the 3M heavy duty is still not strong enough for extended use. This makes the argument for caulk if you are not going to use different adhesive. At least you know there is an option... I would say you should put some caulk behind the mirror still so you can be sure there won't be a problem.

I went through the same thing a few months back. Gave them a month and after that filed a dispute through paypal. Kenny promptly refunded my money and told me to order through multivexmirrors.com

Placed an order through multivexmirrors.com on 6/9 and got an email saying they are backordered, 6-8 week estimated ship date.

Drive faster than you don't need any mirror.

My old S2000 had similar mirrors to this installed, and I removed them because I couldn't get used to going back and forth between that car and my other vehicles which all had regular mirrors.

As for the blind spot, I just speed up if I want to change lanes

I will say that the blind spots in the Exige are huge though so I might try out a set of these puppies.

I used to do the same thing... almost was the cause of several side swipes thanks to that.... the blind spots are just HUGE on this car. The multivex is definitely a weird transition because I drive my truck 99% of the time, but mostly only when backing out of the garage (where you appear to be entering a black hole or time warp according to the mirrors). On the road, they are an absolute life saver. Changing lanes in traffic is no longer a "hold your breath and gun it" maneuver.

My daily driver truck has regular mirrors occupying the upper three fourths of the mirror housings, and has convex mirrors in the lower fourth.

Having gotten used to the Multivex on my Exige, I find myself using only the convex mirrors that the truck has. The regular, undistorted view from the main mirrors just looks too weird!

Regardless of the mirrors, driving the Elise and then some other car requires a major transition. To me, the mirrors were a minor thing and the advantages worth it.

Maybe it's just me but my standard F-150 mirrors are great. I feel like I can see the whole world!

Wonder if I could make em fit on my Ranger? those mirrors inhale profusely.

whew - just finished reading this entire 4 year thread. lots of information but I still have a question - my Exige now serves as my dedicated track. Thursday night I was running in the dark under track lights - two of us were running Exiges and admittedly we were engaged and not focused on what was behind us. Another driver in a full race Porsche marked us and was working to overtake us in the straightaway, he missjudged our speed but committed to overtake us on the inside in the third turn after the straightaway. The first thing I saw was a flash of orange headlight on my left as he overtook me on the inside - less 2 feet from my driver's door when we turned parallel. I stayed online and we avoided contact. I am not sure I would have seen him with better mirrors and maybe I am alive because I didnt see him but its was a big wake up for me.
Do the Multivex mirrors create distortion in depth of field? Has anyone had much experience on the track? at night?
I am debating whether it would be safer with a wider field of vision & the distortion that comes with that or sticking with the stock optics in the Lotus OEM mirrors...

You get used to the mirrors after about a week of living with them. After a while you can't really live without them !.... I don't notice any distortion at all, but I have the first set also.

Any convexity/concavity in a mirror will change the depth of field perception. So, yes.

I've had multivex mirrors since I got my '05 elise last october and they were installed years ago. I test drove an elise without them. The multivex makes a huge difference. I'd think they do create distortion in depth of field, but I pretty much know exactly how far back cars are in my mirrors - the distortion is probably at a consistent rate and you get used to it without thinking about it. I haven't tracked in the dark but I have during the day and I have an elise so I can see out the back, but I would think that having a wider field of vision behind you with a slight distortion in depth would be better than having a narrower field of view. You most likely would have seen the porsche's headlights earlier with multivex mirrors - the less surprises on a track the better.

AHHHHH a learning curve... pardon the pun - I agree & I would have preferred to see my demise in advance.

Absolutely..... about 20 track days on her right now... no problem. BUY them.... you can always sell them for what you bought them for.

I keep reading this, but I was comfortable with mine in the first few minutes of driving. No, I couldn't necessarily judge distances in the mirror, but I could see if there was something there that I needed to be concerned with.

Correct, but not any more so than a standard convex mirror on the right side of all cars. But you have the same mirror on the left now too...
