The only time you really notice that the mirror is not the exact same size is basically when you first install them.... after a while you forget all about it, and noone ever notices. It'll take a little while to get used to but once you get used to the view, you won't know how you lived without them.

Are most people using the double sided tape or some type of permanent silicone adhesive to mount with? I would imagine that if someone ever parts the car out the mirror will go with it.

The double sided foam tape works fine. I've had mine on since the first prototypes were installed on my car, and they're solid. ( even after 10,692 washings ! )

OH...........and ( EVERYONE ) IF you need to take them off..... the trick is: Dental Floss......... get a long piece, and scissor it in back of the mirror....it'll come right off.

Kestrel, thanks for the info and the tip. I like the idea of them not being permanent incase I part with car at some point.

The problem with the tape is just thickness. Black RTV gets a tighter fit against the stock glass, and provides a nice black "caulk" effect around the new glass. Of course, removal is not an option, so put the dental floss away.
If I had it to do over, I might pull off the stock glass with a big suction cup.. just to allow the multivex to be recessed properly. Doesn't really matter -- as others have said, you only notice these things when installing. |

BTW, just a cautionary note on handling the Multivex mirrors. The mirror coating is on the outside surface of the glass, not sandwiched between layers. If you try to buff out a scratch, you'll take off the coating. Don't ask me how I know this.
This wouldn't stop me from buying the mirrors, but just be careful not to scratch them. John

Blind Spots?
With the stock mirrors, I have no blind spots.
I adjusted the i/s mirror to point to the right, so I can't see any part of myself (a good idea for me under any circumstances). This way, it's pointed to the right rear and picks up just when the other vehicle is leaving the o/s mirror view. Note that you should not be able to see any part of your car if your o/s mirrors are adjusted properly. If you need to see your car as a "reference," you need an improved sense of its size. I like to adjust mirrors at stoplights while in the middle lane of a traffic jam; they are easy to find in NJ. (Personally, I stay away from mirrors and strong overhead lights whenever possible. No, not a vampire...just getting old.) |

We are the original Elise vendors

Just a very friendly reminder...I'm the guy from safetymirrorsonlinedotcom that first came to your forum more than a year and a half ago now in response to a question about the major blind spots on the Elise. I knew about and took a special interest in informing Elise owners about this problem and help provide an answer precisely because I drove my sister's Elise in Germany and noticed the blind spots BIG TIME. So I came here and answered a LOT of questions, got Kestrel involved (since he is in Detroit close to Bob, he could do the tracing), worked with factory, and organized the group buy. Due to the overwhelmingly positive response, we are elated that it seems to have been worth all the time and effort. We are a bit saddened, however, that most Elise owners buying these mirrors do not remember us and buy them elsewhere. We sincerley hope that you will once again consider referring potential buyers to us or when buying your own Multivex mirrors. Thanks a lot...and drive safely!! Thanks for helping make these mirrors a reality for the Elise. I agree with you that they significantly improve safety. |

Multivex Mirror review
Hi, I just installed the right side and taped on the left side for a ride.
QUESTION: To those using the mirrors for backing up. The driver's side did not seem to give the correct perspective for backing up. What is the experience of those using the driver side Mulitvex for backing? BTW, the RHS was replaced because the OEM was broken. A little tricky, but if anybody is interested I will post the procedure that I used and a pic. -KG

By all means, people should by from you, since you were the ones that went to the effort of fitting them to the car. I don't believe that you can get them anywhere else for less, so you should get the business and your cut of the profit for the work you did. It might be helpful if you were to post your link to your website here again so people know where to go to order... As for people trying them - I've had many fellow Elise owners sit in my car at gatherings to try the mirrors. They have all indicated that "I've got to get me some of those". The mirrors really are a great addition to help the visibility and remove the blind spots.

You will get used to the strange view. BUT once you get used to it, it's really hard driving with anything else...... There are NO blind spots.
