New Shift Light

I've been having a problem with hitting the limiter ( I know), so I was thinking of installing a 2nd shift light somewhere on the pillar in upper left corner area of my windsheild. The existing light just doesn't attract my attention well enough. Has anyone had the same problem or installed an additional shift light?

i occassionally forget to shift and hit the limiter. usually because i'm either grinning too much, or waving to the person i just passed.

i figured i'd add one of those soft feminine voice box things to encourage me to shift shortly, or perhaps a HAL, or ben stiller shouting 'do it'

i thought about the light thing too, i keep thinking it'd be a good idea, but then i keep telling myself i should really be paying more attention to whats going on. be interesting to see what you come up with

the rx8 has a redline beep 1k(i think, maybe 500) away from cutoff, and it works great. there might be a light as well, but i cant recall off the top of my head.

I dunno. If the screaming engine at 8000rpm doesnt get your attention, will a little beep? I can't even start to hear the radio at those revs.

You could probably rig a doggie shock collar to fire at the appropriate time...?

That would only teach me to not sh:t on the carpet!
I think the beep is a good idea but it would have to be pretty loud to hear over the engine. LEDs are getting pretty bright now, I bet it's possible to mount one in the corner that would be pretty unnoticable until it lights up. What do you guys think?

This may be too simple, but...
You must know when you are getting close to the limit. That little red light is not hard to see in peripheral vision when you are expecting it. The engine is screaming, you see a tiny bit of red somewhere in the cockpit....boom! upshift!

I feel the same way you do. On the track with a helmet it's too hard to see. Started the same thread about 6 months ago and also got a lot of crap back.

Don't know anyone who has succesfully tapped into the ignition trigger signal to drive a secondary shift light. Want to pull the rpm signal into the DL1 so I will be playing with this over the winter. If I succeed I will post the info but I really don't think many people here care.

Autometer makes a little box that will amplify the trigger. About $80 and I don't know if it will work but it should.

Let us know if you figure something out.

I say get used to it a little more. More driving and you will get used to the timing.

The feminine voice saying shift would be good. Just like "bitching Betty" in airplanes. But you want to make sure that it's also linked to the shifter so if you try to shift from 5th to 2nd she says, "NOT THAT ONE".

Would "DOWN" really be an option?

More importantly, "don't lift" would be repeated while cornering.

We are inventing the most annoying car here. Sounds like Knight Rider to me.

Sounds like a mix of Kit and my exgirlfriend. "Shift into 3rd Micheal and put the toilet seat down. I swear if my a$$ gets wet at 3am 1 more time I'll leave you! Now heal toe into 2nd and easy on the shifter you know how I get this time of the ..." blah blah.

If you want an aftermarket unit, SPA does a standalone with the optional LED module in the eyeport of your helmet.
