OP - have you looked at the cupholder that Sector 111 has? I have a couple of them. They are easily removal for track days. They do get in the way a bit in terms of entry and exit but we're used to that.
I did check that one out, guess I just really liked the look of the OEM and when I to test drove an Elise it had that option. I liked that it was out of the way in the middle of the dash.

I should clarify that against the wishes of the Mrs. I went out and bought a black elise...during that same Elise test drive one of biggest plus' and car obligations for her was a cupholder.

Needless to say the OEM cupholder has a fun functional design to it. Since she's an engineer that extra element of useful cupholding satisfaction made life easy for me during the pre-purchase process.

So I figured now that I've gotten the one color nobody else in the house wanted the least I could do was buy the cupholder for her and some more mods for me.

For the record, I also have the sector cup holder. It stays on the passenger's side, so it's never in my way, but it holds my drink just as well.

All these anti-cup-holder sentiments.... What's one *good* reason for not having a cup-holder in every car, assuming there's space for one?

The stock cup holder should be around $125.

I have 4 ounces of good reasons not to have one!

This is the kind of BS dealers get axed for in the long run. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. They can be morons sometimes.

Weight, but mainly I don't want to pay for it.

Yeah apparently it "used to be" just that. I've called a few dealers now all confirming it's over $300. I have a decent relationship with my local guys and even they said the same thing. The parts guy couldn't believe it. He was convinced it should be around $140..goes to check the stockroom...comes back to the phone lets me know non in stock...checks parts program and is floored because its now over $300 considering. He just installed one last year at the $140 mark.

OEM is not $300. Call FVMC. It's in the 100-200 range.

I have had the Sector111 one, the BWR one, and the OEM one. Sector111 one stinks IMO... I alwyas kick it when trying to get out. The BWR one works well but it's an eye sore, but you can mount it on the lip of the "glove box" which is nice. It's VERY flimsy though. The OEM one is useless because it can barely fit a soda can. But it looks nice? lol

I had the BWR one and it flew apart after one too many hard accelerations.

re: weight - 5 ounces in trade for years of convenience & arguably added safety. imho, not a good argument if your car is anything but a track rat.

re: price - I hear you there. I feel every car should come with one. having a $300 (or even $100) optional cup holder is beyond ludicrous.

No convenience or extra safety for me, I never drink anything while driving.

Everyday I go get an iced coffee in the Elise. I just stick the coffee inside one of my spare sneakers as it's sitting in front of the passenger seat. It's worked great so far.

I'm with glb. I have two cheap plastic cup holders that I bought at a drug store for $3 for the pair. Keep them in the boot when I'm not using them. Weighs nothing and because I store them in the boot it looks a lot better.

If god intended us to have cup holders, he would have given us a 3rd hand. But then again, if I have a 3rd hand, I can think of better use for it like ... never mind.

I too don't drink (or eat) when I'm driving. That is what rest-stop and McDonald's are for.
