You may already know this, but just in case, if you're going to drill more holes, make sure you cover the area to be drilled with masking tape.

Mine came yesterday. I've been busy and haven't even unpacked it. Thanks though - it looks well packaged and I'm glad to have it.

For cracking issues? Sounds like a good idea. Fortunately, I didn't have any problems with the 4 holes I added.

This is not plexiglass. It is Lexan and very soft compared to Plexi. Masking tape while a safety margin while drilling..I have not found it necessary when drilling Lexan.

In my opinion...Plexiglass would shatter. maybe even transmit the force to the window.

Track Time with Polycarb rear wind shield

Installed the Polycarb Rear window shield and went off for 3 day HPDE at VIR. Ran three days/four runs a day except last day did 3. Also let a guest do a couple of "low speed" runs. Outside temps were in the high 80's the entire weekend.
I made no changes to the shield, installed as delivered. I had some concerns about heat build up between the glass and Polycarb but that didn't prove to be an issue. Other than some dust between the shield and back window there were no problems. It held fast and seem to do the job.
I won't claim to know if any flying objects entered the car during my runs but it sure did give me piece of mind knowing I had that "buffer" for the glass.
Money well spent in my opinion.
Just an FYI for those of you who purchased the shield.

UPdate. July 13, 2007 I have 8 of these left. If I ever do another run, it will only be after at least 15preorders. If you want one...let me know. First come gets what is left.

Driving on the freeway last year, I had a rock THWACK into my rear window, leaving a pock mark scar. Rather than press my luck, I just ordered one of these shield thingies.

Now I need to find something to offset the added weight....

drive without underwear and socks; that should take care of it.

my suction cups give out after sitting for a week. I make sure to give them a push before taking off on the road.

I just had a rock enter my cabin during a Lotus meet with Skyvue -- is costing $1300 to repair, mostly labor. Not to mention, I can't drive it with a shattered window for 2 weeks while waiting to get it fixed. I will definately invest in this.

Clean the window better. One of mine popped off after about 2 weeks. I cleaned the window and all is fine. Sat for the last month...still on.

I got mine a couple of months ago; my car was 2 years old last week. Before getting the shield from Tony I never had anything but dust enter the cabin.

Since adding the shield, I had one stone fly in and put a nick in my sunglasses, and last weekend something flew in and cracked the display on my radar detector (mounted backwards behind the seats). Suddenly I'm glad my window is protected.
