Purchased Mog Seats- ALL DONE!!!!
Well, I finally made a decision and ordered the Mog seats.
They look great and will give me the support I need and work with a 6 point harness system without needing modifications. I ordered the regular seat for the drivers side and an XL for the passenger side. This way when I get an instructor that is 6'3" 220 lbs he won't be screaming mercy trying to fit in the seat! Bad thing is the XL seats are only made to order so it will take between 2 and 3 weeks before I get them. I picked the Mog seats over the Reverie based on price and looks. The Mog seats seem to have a little more shape to them which I think matches the lines of the car better. Even with the overseas air freight the seats were significantly cheaper than the Reverie. People have had good things to say about the Reverie, but even with the air freight the Mog seats were about 60% of the cost. I hope the quality is good, but I haven't really found anybody taking bad about them. I will post my impressions when I receive the seats. I have already taken the car apart to do my radar detector install and start on the harness bar. I'm not sure if I can go that long without driving it! I might just have to put the seats and belts back in for a week or so and then take them back out. As far as the harness system, it looks like I don't have much of a choice but to drill through the floor for the sub strap mounts. I wait until the seats get here to look at and see if I can come up with any other ideas.

I heard back from the supplier and apparently the XL seat does not fit in the federal Elise without some major modifications. They said it will fit in the European version with only minor mods some I wonder what the difference is in the interiors.
The good news is the standard version is off the shelf so I won't have to wait on the XL seat to be custom made so I should get them much sooner! Hopefully by the end of next week!

That bit about drilling through the floor for the mount. Please be careful, under tesion and G load it may put undue stress on the frame, don't you think so?

Babak,
I'm not to keen on mounting the sub straps by drilling through the floor. Even with backing plates it is still just thin aluminum and will probably buckle in the event of a wreck. I'm going to take a close look at everything once the seats arrive and I can get a good look at how everything fits together. I'm hoping I can design something to go between the seat and the car that will be much more secure for the sub straps. I also still need to figure out the hardware for mounting the lapbelts. Time for more research! ![]()

Perhaps the guys at Lotus Sport can be of help. Afterall, they did field a couple of race cars, not to mention Cadena. Robert Puertas has been ordering stuff from them for people and may have some contacts to help with this issue. I would be very surprised if they have not had to deal with this issue for their own race cars.

I talk to BWR already. We both came to the same conclusion that the Lotus Sport race cars would have all had full roll cages inside them. This would have given them the necessary hard points for mounting the harness too. BWR has been specifically told by Lotus that they cannot sell any seats from the trim shop with the 5th hole because of liability. Apparently, Lotus does alter the seats in Europe and elsewhere for the 5th hole, but not in the US.
Damn lawyers! We just want to do what is safe for our cars and the lawyers make companies afraid to do business over here. If you are a lawyer don't take it personally, this is more directed at lawyers who take any case and will sue for just about anything.

Officially Lotus only supports 5/6 point harnesses with the Motorsport seats (used to be Corbeau, now Sparco I think) with these fixed seat mounts and belts that are allowed to route the crotch straps under the seat to the rear points..
Bye, Arno.

Thanks Arno, I hadn't seen that before. That is a very interesting mount taking the sub belts back to the rear points. I wonder how that works with the geometry. I haven't seen any documents from harness makers showing this type of setup.

ARGH!!!! I miss understood the vendor. The seats are custom order regardless of size! Mine are in the queue so it could be a couple more weeks or so before I get them.
I hope they are worth the wait!

Just got word that it looks like my seats will ship today so I should have them sometime next week. I will have a better idea when I get the tracking number.
I gave up on the harness system from Impact Racing. They had the drivers side in stock, but the passenger side had to be ordered. They said 1 to 1.5 weeks. It is now week three and they haven't shipped it and are giving me the run around so I told them to cancel the entire order and I will get something else. I can't wait to watch the seminar from S111 this weekend. If you are looking at doing seats and harness system for your car, you don't want to miss it, HINT HINT HINT!!! They made me promise not to say anything but another post on here already let the cat out of the bag until the videos were pulled!

Ok, I have the tracking number and the seats are officially on there way. They are currently somewhere in France clearing customs according to the tracking number. If I get lucky I might get them before the weekend!
I'll post some photos when they arrive.

For those of you following this, I have been fighting with a customs broker that hasn't done anything that they promised. At least now, the seats are finally out of there hands and Fed Ex has them. According to Fed Ex, they are on there way to me and should arrive tomorrow, but I'll believe it when I see it as nothing has gone to plan on this one.
