Question Sticky foam tape under entrance and exit sills...

Has anyone else had the problem with the grey foam tape under the entrance and exit sills for the car .....they keep sliding out leaving snail trails and even unscrewing the piece to get them back up they just creep back down.

Search for "splooge" - they all do it and it never seems to stop.

You can lift up or remove the door sills from the car and peel off the sticky tape. The gooey trail can be removed with Goo Gone, which is a citrus based product.

I did so to my Lotus.

Or just stick it back under the sills.

No big deal. Don't let it annoy you...

Just had the driver side sill off the other day, and got rid of the stuff on the sides. No more or less noise than before, but no little bits of tape and glue coming out.

dealership told me this happens to ALL of the cars.
if you take to them, they will fix it usually for free.

haha no less than a week ago when I was taking my door panel off did I notice the splooge creaping out from under the sill like a low budget movie creature. With STE's timely post no longer will I wonder how to combat it. Splooge creature be gone!

I don't really care about the splooge (much), but the irony is that it is only coming out on the passenger side, which hardly ever gets any weight on it. The driver's side sill, which I sit on to enter & exit the car, is just fine. Maybe the stuff thrives on abuse.

Yes, they reach down and pull out what will come out and then cut it off. Lotus reportedly pays 15 minutes labor to "fix" the problem under warranty rather than the 1.5 hours it takes to really fix it.

I wonder if they are still building them that way?
