I had not thought about adding a redline on the tach starting at 8000 or 8500. Might keep a valet parker somewhere from trying to hit 10,000 over and over only to be thwarted by the rev limiter.

I think something akin to BMW gauges would look classy... all red numbers and hash marks on a black background. Problem is, the elise needles dont light up so they might be hard to see.

I can add the redline no problm...
I think Lotus didn't really pay much attention to the gauge cluster....

I'm actually working on the M3 currently..
I'll be making the template really soon....

With the controller that I used to make the changes, needs to have analog signal tach line....
But Elise has digital signal, so as of now.. it's not looking good for Elise for color changing gauge face...

Instrument cluster connector pin outs

Does anyone have the connection information for the Instrument cluster connectors? If so, please contact me.

I'll buy a working cluster stock if any of you are ready to change to a more exciting one. My dealer refused to warranty mine because I can't get the car there until the day after the warranty expires. I was somewhat disappointed with the lack of sympathy.

I got an email from Speedhut, and they will produce the dash gauges for the Elise if they get 25 pre-orders, plus they need to be supplied with the stock gauge cluster. I have the opportunity to get a junkyard cluster for $315 to provide to Speedhut. However, they need 25 pre-orders before they begin tooling. If anyone is interested in getting on board with this, chime in...

Here are some samples of their reverse-glow dials (from various vehicles, obviously):
Goldfive,

If you drop the idea, please tell me where to buy the $315 cluster. Mine is stone dead (after 5K miles) so I need one badly. I can't get my car insected without one that works. THe dealer refused to warrantee it because I couldn't get the car there for a day or two after the expiration due to hospitalization.

sorry, mine came from a junkyard. Have you tried Lotusgarage.com? They have them, but they definitely aren't cheap. My other suggestion would be to submit online parts requests to various junkyards... one of them probably has a wrecked elise

Doh!

I just realized that I never uploaded my gauge scans from last March...

Here are the very large bitmaps in .zip format. One .bmp for the cover/gauge face and one .bmp for the actual electroluminescent panel.

gaugeface.zip

electropanel.zip

Hope this helps anyone who is pursuing this...

Enjoy!

But i would be interested. Did anything ever come from speedhut?

i bought the cluster off goldfive, it didn't work, so if you buy it from a junkyard you have to expect that too, i understand they would have swapped it out though.

Could someone photo shop the standard gauges with a LRG face with a yellow light behind lighting up the numbers and needles and the lines under the numbers, that has some potential for being cool

It's true, although some have hacked their ECU or purchased a reflash to fix the offset. Some claim to not have the offset from the factory.

How about doing one in similar style to the Aston Martin V8 Vantage?

I'm sure it'd be difficult but is it possible?

I think it could work. My car is storm titanium and looks right at home next to a v8 vantage. If the gauges were done in the same style as the v8 vantage but with the same layout the elise has I think it would look good.

I appears to be true. European rules apparently specify that the speedometer can never rear low - even if oversize tires are fitted. The result is that the speedometers always read high. At least that is what is most often reported.

In any case, the Elise Speedometer is usually reported to be 6 - 8% high in the speed reading.

Reflashing the ECU shouldn't "fix" it as the ECU actually has the proper speed - it sends that information to the instrument cluster via the CANbus, and the speedometer apparently "adds" the 6 - 8% to the speed.

The odometer readings are accurate.

I can verify the ECU gives the proper speed. The speed reading on my GPS matches the Speed reading reported from my DASHDaq via the ECU. The cluster is about 5 mph off at 70mph.
