Can you reflash the ECU to force the speedo to read the proper value?

yes indeed the ecu knows the right speed , the cluster is the one responsible for the error margin.

you can induce the error fix on the ecu side though.

That's what I thought. I'd take whichever route is easier to fix it. Do any of the lower shift point options include this change? That would be ideal.

since everyone is having a problem with their clusters not reading right......
has anyone zeroed out their cluster......tells you how in your lotus manual that comes with the car...

leave driver door open......
insert key into ignition......
hold button for illumination/trip reset......
while holding turn key to on.....
hold for a few seconds.....needles will zero out.....
i do this at least once a month.....
my cluster at one time was 20mph off and tach was waaaayyy off....

For what its worth, I dont like the "toaster oven orange" or the gauge plate that looks like it was printed from an early 90's ink jet.

Im getting a carputer with a 7 inch touch screen in the radio DIN. I will design my own RPM and SPEED, water temp and everything else. Here is a rough look at my first program. Ignore the CC/M, that will likely be speed and tied into the speed sensor when its ready.

Ok, back on topic.

The clusters on the Lotus are truly the worst I have EVER encountered on a prodeuction car! (Why do I say this you ask?? 7 count them...7 instrument cluster replacements!)

At one point my speedo was 140MPH off...Really...Car was OFF and needle at 140 and at 7500 rpm....that was cluster failure # 3 I think.....(That car was FAST standing still...wish I had kept the pics now!)

I have seen kit cars with better electrical, clusters!

I did see a computer cluster in a Lotus a few weeks back, and it was BRILLIANT! And fit in the stock housing....(May have been a car listed in Ebay...)

Will see if I can hunt it down, and see where it came from..and if so, repost it for the rest of us...

no need to hunt it down, it's a very prominent thread here on ET.

Can I play:)

Thanks!

Some pics just today...

Negative boost is just showing vaccum at idle...

I've got several different screens to toggle through that show things like TPS, AFR, etc... Kind of fun and very informative... Great contrast in the light and at night too...

All this is very easy to reduce back to stock form if need be. But why would ya

First two pics are in the sunlight and the last is at night.

Best,

Phil

Interesting.

Not my choice but it's a clean install. Nice work.

Really looks good even off.

Outstanding!

What about the shift light? Or have you gone to an external mount for that?

Am being lazy, but...Just not up to hunting the threads to see the how and where...

What was the cost on this? If you do not mind me asking?

I am not in the mood to watch cluster failure #8 at the moment, and will like to nip it in the bud...

S

See those 6 LEDs at the top of the Dash2 screen? Those light up progrssively in intervals that I tell them to prior to the user defined shift point. They are also adjsutable for brightness so therer's no blinding (they can get VERY bright!). There's even a day and night setting for the shift light brightness. When the head lights are turned on the shift lights go to the night setting--- which again, is a level that's user defined.

Cost isn't too bad... RT has a special for the package at $1,600. That gets you everything you need minus a compact flash card and the four momentary switches needed to operate the unit. I spent another 20 bucks at Radio shack on switches and some over priced CAT5 wire. The car has all the sensors you really need for basic display and it's easy to just tap into those feeds with wire taps (I prefer not to cut the OE wires and I've had good luck with the taps).

The unit has so many capabilities, that you may find yourself buying more sensors just for fun I tried to atleast loosly document the project in my dash mod thread referenced earlier...

Best,

Phil

so what's your "choice"?

tell us about a preferred solution that's been implemented.

I want to go with faces. I like the analog look.

Mine is not the only valid choice though.

That setup looks quite good, just not what I want.

Like a nice car you do not care to own. Don't make it a bad ride, just one you are not likely to buy.

Phil, excellent work there. I really do like it, just not what I have in mind for mine. That is all.

I hope I have not offended in miscomunicating that. I'd love to see those shift lights operating as well.

Again, not my choice, but nice work and a good clean install.

I have been searching for options myself prior to implementing anything. Read my comments for what they are, not for what you think they may mean please Ace.
