Bump for good sellers. I emailed them about a Lotus before i found my current Exige. They responded back quickly and answered all my questions.

Good luck!

I considered buying from them, and still might consider it, but they never responded to an inquiry email I sent them several months ago. Hit and miss service perhaps? Or did you use a different email than the listed hayes@ one?

My wife and I went to Wire Wheel about 3 weeks ago to look at this car, and others Hayes had in stock.
While we were there, the man was very busy, and his phone never stopped ringing. Yet, he spent a lot of time, answering any questions I asked. He showed me a bare Elise frame, and explained where they get damaged in accidents.
We didn't buy a car that day, and I said as much to Hayes at the beginning, but he and his assistant spent a couple hours with me. It will probably be a few months before we purchase, but wouldn't hesitate to return to Wire Wheel.
Maybe your email slipped thru the crack, I'd give him another chance.

Thanks Aharwood3rd. I'm traveling to Florida for a wedding and planning to pick up an Elise or Exige somewhere in the eastern half of the United States in July, depending on what deals can be had at that time (also considering a Z06), then driving it to Southern California to have it shipped home to Hawaii. Yes, I read about Doug Demuro's experience driving an Elise across the country. One nice thing about buying from WireWheel (other than them being in Florida if I remember right) is that they claim they sort out all recalls, other issues and make sure all necessary parts are freshened up/replaced before going up for sale - that's a biggie for me right before driving across the country. Can you confirm that they actually do this to all of their for-sale cars?

Boy, talk about derailing a sold thread.

Paul,
Sounds like a nice trip, with the bonus of a Lotus.
All I can relate about Hayes & Wire Wheel, is my 2 hrs there, and reading his ads here, and on his web site. It seems most ads will note if recalls have been done.
On this site, he seems to have a sterling reputation. From my time there, with him and his mechanic, it's obvious they care about what they do.
Maybe give him a call, tell him your concerns, I'm sure he'll give you a straight answer and good suggestions.
hope this helps some, I just wanted to share my positive experience with him.
(pics are some of his inventory, packed tight, eh?)

I bought my '05 Elise from WW. I flew in to Ft. Lauderdale and rented a car to drive to his shop. He helped me return the rental. I drove straight home to New Jersey without incident and with confidence. Of course my hips were killing me (tight seat and wide bottom don't mix for long drives). I pre-arranged a purchase of a matching hard top from another party enroute home and picked that up as well.
Elises are pretty much "bullet-proof" anyway, so a cross country drive is no worry at all.
