74 Zetec Europa For Sale - LotusTalk

I HATE to do this....but situations force sale of either my 1974 Europa or the Elise.... ( the Elise won )...so, here goes... the short list:
2.0 liter Zetec crate engine --0 miles.... Estimated at 240 HP by the engine builder ( SRE Race Engines )
Crower stage 2 race cams
Ported / Polished pulling 260 CFM through the head
Alloy pulleys throughout the engine with unothodox racing alloy flywheel
oversize stainless steel valves
ARP rod bolts
Ceramic coated headers
2 inch stainless steel custom exhaust
oversized rear sway bar ( 1 inch )
new elec fuel pump
stainless steel fuel lines with drains
drains installed for coolant lines
Disc brake conversion--all 4 wheels--- 10- 1/2 inch Wilwood vented racing brakes ( I think they're 4 piston )
15 inch tire / wheels conversion all around
Wheels: Konig Helium weight: 10 pounds each.
Tires: BFGoodrich G Force radials.... ( drag radials on the rear ) ( I will update with sizes )
Transmission: 5 speed NG-3 from a 1983 Fuego Turbo ( 8000 miles on the trans )
New Weber 45 DCOE Carbs with custom intake.
Both gas tanks have been rebuilt to new specs.
shifter is from a Toyota MR2; all cable conversion to the trans...no tubes
new battery
I'm sure there is more for this list; but it can be added later....
ALL the old Europa parts ( with the exception of the twincam engine-which was sold ) go with the car.
ALL the stock Zetec parts go with the car.
Car is not on the road yet.... it does need some minor finish work......... I need to recoup some of my parts money at least. I need to get about $ 18,000 for this car.....and is not open to much discussion after that....Needless to say as with any project I have MUCH MUCH more than that into it. PICS to follow:

Well, I don't REALLY want to sell it, but have to.... in my opinion, it handles better than the Elise, and when it's tweaked it'll be much quicker... power to weight ratio of a Viper, or better.

I still think you shouldn't sell it. For our cars the phrase, "The more you drive it the less it breaks" applies. The Europa could be a reliable car. Plus there's nothing in the world like owning a classic car.

For your information, I own a Elise and one Europa.

I really think that the Europa is not a fully finalized car from Lotus, and needs a lot of love to be reliable and fun to drive hard. But the potential is very high, not as high as the Elise, but cheaper.

The Europa have a lot of design mistake:
1- A very bad bad transmission, synchro and ratio: Mine is using a close ratio straight cut dog type.
2- The engine mount are just too soft and create bad handling: Mine is fixed without any rubber.
3- The rear wheel hub and shaft are bad, the hub wear out quickly (porous aluminum), and the hub on the shaft come loose: Mine is using home made billet housing, and billet shaft with the wheel flange on one piece.
4- Brake set-up are just syupid with not vented disc front, and drum on rear: I use wilwood vented disc on 4 wheels.
5- weak front suspension wishbone: mine is using bank tubular solid bushing.
6- version S2, suspension just too high, they level higher the car to pass the bumper height regulation.

After that, with a nice engine (mine use a Honda H22A 230 HP engine, but rotating wrong side), and with all modifications required, it just become a very nice track car, very fast, very light, easy to repare. All parts can be locally made. In fact, it can be a real Elise killer, but not usable car on road.

I prefer my Europa by a bit on track, I really prefer the Elise on road. But if something happen on the Elise, the car will be just scrap, and not possible to redone the frame.

Personnal decision, not able to take my-self at the moment, and I spend money on both... bad...
