Elise Wanted for Four-Day Display in SoCal

I work for a Los Angeles-based company called Event Vehicles that specializes in providing vehicles for auto manufacturer's various programs and events. Today I received a request from a client for the following vehicle and thought maybe a local ET member might be interested in working with us.

Vehicle: 2006 Lotus Elise

Specs: Prefer red color. Must be in showroom condition and dead stock. All other specs are open.

Dates: Deliver to Site Friday, September 15 at 9 AM Sharp
Pick up from Site Tuesday, September 19 at 9 AM Sharp

Location: Long Beach, CA. Site specifics TBD

Usage: Static indoor display only at a manufacturer's new-product design focus group. At no time would the vehicle be driven except for positioning and participants would not be allowed access to the interior.

Transportation: Event Vehicles would arrange for local flat-bed transport as necessary.

Payment: $1,500.00 for the period paid upon vehicle delivery

Interested parties can contact me directly.

Thanks very much,

Matt Merritt

$1500 dollars....interesting to see if anyone who owns a 2006 Elise will let it out of their sight for four days for that small amount of money.

I bet..........................not.

That "dead stock" requirement might also be difficult if it means things like mirror replacements, trim work, etc.

Mine would work (other than the color)... but I drive it too much to consider it to be in "showroom condition." All sorts of little flaws in the starshield.

I'd do it, that would pay for my second set of wheels. Of course I'm on the other side of the country.

"Oops! It feel off the trailer!

Well, did you read the really fine print?

The part that says 'we're not reponsible for any car under 2000 pounds.'

Sorry...here's your Lotis back. That's how you spell it, isn't it? Stupid Japanese car..."

Why the hostility? Did you have a bad experience with Event Vehicles?

So what is it that they are gonna do with the car?

What is a ride and drive?

From their website it seems like they could do a lot to the car, seems too easy.

Edit: Just read static display but still wanna know what they do with other cars.

I'm wondering why dealers aren't jumping all over this.

Elise Wanted for Four-Day Display in SoCal

Hi Guys:

Event Vehicles does all kinds of manufacturers' programs - averaging about 60 jobs a month. Some are ride and drives where salesmen get to take a paid hooky day and learn about their cars and beat the crap out of ours. Those unfortunate vehicles are then taken to the auction after the program ends. Others programs are sometimes like this one. In this case I'm completely comfortable contacting private owners to loan us their pride and joy.

Transport would be covered by a flat-bed operator who was familiar with tying the Elise and its full undertray.

The car would not be detailed and would only be dusted as necessary. Our client doesn't even trust professional detailers with these cars.

The car would be viewed by a select group of consumers who'd be solicited for their opinions on the styling of an anonymous manufacturer's prototype models versus a number of current vehicles. I'm sure many of you who are frequent car buyers/leasees have gotten these requests - "We'll pay you $100 for your opinion and are not trying to sell you anything".

Each car in the group - and I'm not sure how many will be there - would be overseen by a staff member to ensure that it isn't touched or abused. Look, that's not to say that bad things can't happen. A few years ago we had a light stand fall on a Hyundai Santa Fe on display. So, I called the dealer, said we needed a second vehicle and, by the way, how much do you want for the first one.

I think this proposal would probably work best for someone who wants to sell his/her Elise and would like the freedom a little extra cash might provide.

By the way, I have an ulterior motive since I am an interested buyer/private party provider myself if I can get my Datsun 240Z vintage racecar sold in time. The Pantera in my avitar just landed at its new home in the Netherlands so I'm making progress toward that goal...

Larry - there's no fine print. Contact me if you'd like me to send you a copy of our standard Vehicle Rental Agreement.

Thanks!

Matt Merritt

Hey Matt, How ya been?
If you're serious about getting into an Elise yourself come over and give mine a spin and see what you think.

Anyone interested in this deal can rest assured their car will be well treated.
Matt is a stand-up guy and a genuine car nut!

Come to think of it mine is a shiny new 2006 and it would give me a reason to flog the Pantera for a few days.

Kevin
