FS: 1 Event scrubbed in Toyo RA-1's **SOLD

I couldn't get mine shaved these are full tread. One event at Horse Thief yesterday, and driving from LA to track and back are what are on these tires so they're pretty much brand new - PM with an offer, local to LA is better.

205/50 15" F
245/45 16" R

SOLD

Nope, I'm just gonna get some shaved ones...running the old ao48's on the street and toybox wheels till they die for good, then gonna throw on some street tires on that set. The RA-1's grip very well, at least as good as the ao48's (this is with full tread), just want to get a shaved set on the car for the next set of track days. Full tread RA-1's are apparently really great for the rain too - people run these down to the cord it seems and love them. When you get down past the tread blocks it's just a slick with 4 grooves.

Is RA-1 better than Falken Azenis RT-615?

I've never used the Falkens before. From searching about tires before I think a fast driver can get pretty fast using the Azenis, especially when they are worn in to the fast layer. But all in all the RA-1's are a real R compound and should be faster, handle heat on a track better, etc. I just wish they had more sizes for 16's so we could run stock sizes on 16/17.

Hey Kaz,

How'd you like the 245 yokos you had in back ? I'm ready for new rear rubber after the next event while preferably sticking with the stock front 195s but I don't want understeer issues. John was saying at HTM how much he liked the 245's on his buddies car, but they are larger diameter and he ddn't mention what he had in front. Did yours rub or casue understeer? Why'd you switch to 15/16's - just for RA1's? I may be interested, but I'd like to see them on your ride first. When's a good time to see 'em on your car?

Why don't you take them to a shop and have them shaved? There has to be shops around your area that can do it. Also what size and offset wheels did you have them on?

The Yokos felt great on my 8" 17's in the rear. The 245's I had on were great, but are really meant for 9" rims in the rear. No rub except the front of my car with a passenger under heavy cornering - my car is corner balanced for just me in the car, lowered quite a bit. Nevertheless the car had no understeer, and really tended to oversteer actually a little so the Nitrons were set to dial that out a tad bit.

I went to 15, 16's simply to try out the RA-1's and wouldn't have if the Yokos lasted a bit longer. If the new 888's come out in good 16, 17's I'll go with those but eventually would like to fit a 285 in the back.

RA1's are definitely faster than Falken 615's. So what tires are you putting on those wheels?

kaz, the ra 1 are great on my spec miata(shaved), there is allot of talk about running them down to the cords. I have found in my experience that they are not some "super tire" and they do in fact heat cycle out.~20 heat cylces and they were like roller skates. i spun in qualifing, and then in my race. threw a new set on, and did my best lap times ever.
just saying dont believe everything you hear about this subject. try them, keep records of heat cycles, and see for yourself. if i were in my lotus , one of those spoins would have bent up allot of suspension stuff. luck the miata is a little tank, and super tough.
have fun, be safe.

As long as I can get 4-5 days it's all good lol. They are cheaper than a full set of AO48's, so all they have to do is equal what I get out of the old sets...which I am sure they will do. But yeah, I will record everything and I have no intention of wearing them so bad they could burst -

do you slide your car alot?
most of the fast SM guys, justin hall, matt cross, k. baille prefer the tires just 10 laps or so before they cord and i do too. i haven't never heat cycle my to death, i have ran over 30 sets of those tires, from shaved to full tread. and i have never seen any tires i like more except slicks. i have driven RA 1 on cars from 2000 lbs to 3500 lbs.

perhaps AZ is much hotter than CA that may make the difference?

205 and 245 RA1 works great on 7" and 8" wheels. kaz is right in that they WILL not understeer, in fact it should be perfectly neutral. if anyone find this set up to understeer, you really need a better suspension guy.

at full tread, i am 2 seconds faster on RA1 then yoko's.
