That and the track pack friendly box will probably be the same design. I am working out the design and will let you know.

I am pushing this out until after Thanksgiving. I am taking my car on a trip and don't want to take it apart for measurements and a new mold until after that. I am looking to use an 8" JL 8W1V2 sub for the design if I can not make the 10" clarion fit.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but the subwoofer looks great! Are you still supplying these Chuck? And status on harness bar friendly one?

I have a design in mind for a harness bar friendly version using an 8" JL sub but need pictures of some cars with their bars installed and the interference areas around the back panel and interior light to complete the design and start on the new mold.

I have the Sector 111 4Tress harness bar, and I don't see a clearance problem as is.

How much for just the enclosure? $400?

I would rather install the amplifier behind one of the seats.

Okay, and this is likely asking too much, but how about just replacing the entire black plastic thing? This way, the other drivers could potentially get an enclosure as well. It would make everything look more integrated.

It adds up so quickly.

Excellent. I'd be happy to take photos for you, but I don't have my car yet... due to arrive in a few weeks. If you don't have photos by then, drop me a line and I'll shoot some over. Thanks!

I could make a mold for that but the cost and labor would make the part much too expensive for it to be worth it due to the complication of the part. It will be a lot easier to work around the harness bars.

Can't believe I missed this thread earlier.

I am going to think about this, but I do have some questions:

1. I don't want to mount an amp in the trunk, but I have one mounted under the passenger seat right now. What is the minimum rating that you'd recommend?
2. Got any pictures of a GG one?
3. How much thump are we talking here? I've got one of those Kenwood units and I consider it barely adequate, but at the same time, I don't want to wake the neighbors with bass, they much prefer to be awoken with a Stage2.

Consider this another vote for replacing the whole black plastic part. I think you could sell dozens of those because it would add the sub and still have some shelf space. Would also allow for a behind seat amp. No one likes the plastic back there - it looks cheap compared to the rest of the car. You could even mold it to fit better speakers.

Depends on which version. The 10" Clarion in a sealed enclosure will run at 100 watts rms. You can get away with 50-60 rms with the 8" JL 8W1v2. What wattage are you looking at?

As for bass mine has plenty but I am putting 150W rms into it. I have not turned it up as loud as it will go nor do I think I can stand it that loud. It is not a ghetto blasting neighbor waking thumper but it sounds great in the vehicle and I had no problems hearing it at the track.

As for the rear back panel I still don't think it would make sense. I would need at least $10k in orders for the mold to be worth the time. It would not be an easy piece. The back panel may be modified and painted a lot easier than making a molded piece and that may have some potential.

+1 on replacement of the whole rear plastic.

I need all the legroom I can get.

It'd be nice to do a 3 speaker setup with 8" JL and two 6.5" components along with a flat spot for amp mounting. I'm interested in doing an amp, 4 speakers (2x 5 1/4" fronts, 2x 6.5" rears), 1x 8" sub, and center console painted to my car color. I don't know if I would fire the speakers in my ear, like the OEM setup. Maybe lower. Same with the sub. A sub sounds better when fired against other objects and reflected. Just throwing out an idea or two.

PM me if you'd like. I just look at the setup and wonder what could be done. Love the engine and crave the tunes.

Update!

Update here:

I just ordered an 8" 8W1v2 JL sub yesterday for the harness bar friendly design and will be building a box with it when it arrives. I have the design worked out and just need to build one and put it in my car to check clearances. I will offer it for sale here to the first PM when it is completed and primed and will paint it any color. I will make more if there is interest.

Glad I subscribed to this thread.

Tell me if I'll be able to slide my seat all the way back. Pics would be great.

You will be able to slide your seat all of the way back if I did not make any mistakes in my measurements. I will get confirmation when I build the first box. As for harness bars, obviously the Sector 111 V-Force bar that has that big loop that fills the package shelf area will be out of the question with any sub box.

Sub Box Update

Still waiting on that darn 8" JL sub to arrive. It is supposed to be here tomorrow. I am making (2) 8" sub boxes based on a car I studied with a Sector 111 harness bar and (1) 10" Rockford Fosgate box. The 10" box is already spoken for and the 8" boxes are still in negotiation. I will take them to the primer stage and post pictures. Pricing will be somewhere near $600 depending on including the sub or not. When I have pricing I will paint them to match the first (2) paid orders. They will be made entirely of fiberglass with the exception of a CNC cut 3/4" thick MDF mounting ring (internal) and of course the paint and batting. I do not make an MDF frame like many others do which saves on weight and allows me to fill the shelf area as much as possible. Of course, subwoofers are not feathers themselves, but I tried to minimize things as much as possible without sacrificing performance and sound. I might make more later if I get the time. These take an awful lot of man hours to create and the materials I use on them are not cheap.

I'm removing my harnesses and bar. How much is it to get one of these in BRP? And does that include sub and speakers? Finally, how much do you think it would cost to get someone to install it? Now that I retired the Elise from racing, I don't mind the extra pounds for better sound quality.

I have to check on B95 Bordeaux Red Pearl as it isn't a color I have done yet. I know it is a three stage color which raises the costs a bit. I will check today. Installation is not something I would try and guess as people and shops charge prices all over the spectrum. Putting the box in is easy, mounting the amp and running wires is the part some people might want help with.

Chuck, I sent you a PM with my email address. I too want the 8" box after you confirm that the seat if all the way back doesn't touch it.

I'm even willing to make things easy on you while I'm at it, as my Elise is the same color as Jer's. You can shoot both boxes in BRP!

Thanks!

Would I need a new head unit? I bought an aftermarket Sony head which is XM/IPod capable. I'm very interested. I can do the behind-the-seat stuff myslef maybe, but not the rest. Getting wires to an amp in the trunk could be a PITA. I wonder if the amp would fit under the passenger seat?

After review, I defintely want the amp too. I'm ready to improve my driving experience, and with the Lotus being a daily driver for what appears to be a lot of long distance driving in the future, the timing is perfect.
