FS: Shock kit for Elise trunk

Shock kit for Elise trunk. I designed this system for my car and have been using it for 8 months without any issues. It holds the trunk lid up when it is raised and compresses back down when it is closed. Can be easily removed with no visible modification to car. The lower bracket mounts to the 2 factory holes (see first picture). The upper bracket requires drilling 2 - 1/8" holes in the divot where the louver attaches to the trunk lid (see picture 5). If removed, the hole is not noticeable from the inside and is under the louver from the top view. Brackets are powder coated matte black.

Kit price is $80 + $10 shipping Priority mail flat rate box.

I have 1 kit ready to ship now. If there is enough interest, I can place an order for the parts to complete more (I have to order a minimum of 10). Send me a PM if you are interested.

Should be fine in heavy winds. The brackets are strong and the shock should be stiff enough to hold the lid open against most winds.

My car is in the shop so I am unable to give you an exact measurement. I am going to say it will open up to 1 inch more then stock. Not a lot.

Question. With the lid be so light and not rigid I am concerned about the downward pressure required to compress the shock and the risk of cracking the lid.

Any concerns with this? Is the shock low enough lbs such that it doesnt take much downward force?

THanks

Jeff

The shock is low pressure (20 lbs). It does not require a lot of force to close. If you unlock the trunk, the shock does not have the pressure to lift it. It just holds it in the position you lift it too.

Received the box today. Just as pictured. Looks nice and well built. Car is in the shop so it might be a few days before i can install it.

The shock looks like it'll be pretty well centered which is half the battle with shock designs (so it doesn't torque the hood/lid or whatever it's holding up) when the average joe yanks on it. Also considering the angles the shock is working at and that it's bolting into a subtantial c-section quite near the pivot/base of the deck i doubt it could cuase any problems. if you bolted it straight into the middle of the deck in an area that's not so re-inforced, and it was acting perpendicular to the plane of the deck it "might" be more of an issue.

To those that PM'd me about my lidbone (i think i got 4-5pm's on it). I'm thinking $35 out the door shipped inside the US. She ain't purdy (i'll snap pics if you care) but it's never been abused or bent. Seems fair? I'll get back to you after i've got this shock installed and used it for a day or two. If you're in a hurry and want to know what order you are in line, PM me again and i'll let you know.
