You mean in combo with this bracket, I assume, as this is a parts market thread. I too used Q's install with Mr.C's bracket.

Yes. I just wish there was a ground that was easier to reach than to extend the wire as per Q's install.

Yea, Wasn't that big a deal though. I simply soldered on a wire and covered it with some heat shrink tubing. BTW, i didn't need to use the zip tie for the pass through - i simply stuck my hands in and grabbed the wire. You may want to try it first without the extension, but knowing Quinn, if she said you need it, you probably do. As for a better grounding location, I can't think of one easier to access.

The Link for the V1 just shows wiring thru the front cubby.

Is there any way to tap into the interior light wiring right at the mounting location to hard wire in my detector?

Any idea which one the 12v wire is on 06's? There is one green/black wire but that does not seem to be it. Before I go ahead and break the multimeter out I thought I would ask here.

Edit: okay figured it out. It's red on the 06.

Mr C, let me begin by saying the bracket is outstanding !! Beautiful workmanship !..........BUT........after knocking mine off no less than 10 times, I decided I needed another mounting solution. I went out and bought some 1/8 " short wall anchors ( for 3/8 in drywall )....I cut the nibs off ( that would normally dig in to the drywall ) and put 4 flat washers against the part that would normally sit on top of the drywall. PERFECT !! creates a very solid mount. Thanks again !!

Sorry folks, I was out of town for a week and need to catch up now...

Kestrel74, you knocked your's off 10 times
Something seems to be very wrong, and I doubt that you installed it correctly
There would be NO WAY to knock it off without breaking the fiberglass unless you didn't install it right.

Imagine that the washer in this picture is the firewall with the Wellnut installed:

Size: 300.7 KB

And this is what it looks like behind the firewall once you install and tighten the bolt:

Size: 267.0 KB

Name: CIMG3412.jpg
Views: 152
Size: 279.6 KB

Note how the Wellnut buldges behing the firewall!

Make sure you have it all installed correctly and you shouldn't have any issues with the bracket coming loose.

Let me know how it works out for you.

I just wonder how the entire bracket can fall off when the wellnuts are installed correctly
I thought you either insalled them backwards, or the holes in the firewall on your car are bigger than they are normally...
The steel washer behind the fiberglass also sounds strange...
There should only be the big black plastic cover which has the interior light and the speakers in it, and behind that is the fiberglass firewall. I have no clue how one would even get washers behind that fiberglass...

Bracket for sale

I received my bracket a couple weeks ago; it is very beautifully made.

However it turned out I am putting in a harness and will mount my camera on the harness bar instead, so I have no use for this bracket I just purchased (even though it does fit with the bar installed).

$40 shipped or best offer. Raw aluminum (not anodized). PM me if interested. Thanks!

MrC: How can I ''tweak'' the angle on the bracket ( right now it points down a little too low ) can it be slightly re-bent ?

I've noticed that as well on my bracket.
The guy who bent them overbent them by maybe 5 degrees or so.
I think it doesn't really matter for the detector itself.
But I went and tried to bend one of the scrap brackets I have back to a 90 degree angle and it works just fine.
I put the vertical shank of the bracket in a vise so the radius of the bend just starts above the vise, and then pulled up slightly on the horizontal part until I got it to be 90 degrees. Works perfect...
After that I tried the same on one of the anodized brackets, and it works there as well without any negative impact.
