HID

I was the person that Rob was referring to who had only one HID working. Voltage was fine. We alsop tried with the endgine running. We took the second HID and it worked on both sides with its own ballast and the other ballast so I think it must be a bad bulb.

Rob, thanks again for hosting. If you ever up North, feel free to stop by.

Low Beams Only

Wuffo,

I don't think that the HIDs would work well as high beams. I think I remember dabears2k saying that because the HIDs make take a second or so to light up, using them as high beams would not be a good idea. Don't want to be flashing high beams a lot if they are HIDs. That can contribute to early failure. Then again, if you decide to do both, do them at the same time.

High beams are fine as HIDs if you are using them for extra light at night. If you want them as flash to pass lights, stick with halogen.

I had 6000k bulbs for my Supra a few years back. Philips Ultinons. They almost seemed too blue to me.

I would think 5000k would have a very slight hint of blue-white light to them, especially side-by-side with halogen. No?

I installed 5000k 55W both high and low beam on my 06 elise. Very happy with them overall. Super bright, feels safer being able to see stuff sooner at night. Only reason I'm not ecstatic, though, is that there's a narrow vertical shadow on the lower half of the light beam, and it seems to wiggle a bit over bumps. I'd think it was a loose bulb, but it happens on both sides and I spent quite a bit of time bending that wire just right to hold them in tightly.

Anyone else notice this, or have ideas what the wiggly shadow might be caused by?

The narrow shadow is the electrical post. And the wiggle is that all HIDs have just a hint of wiggle going over bumps. Not much you can do about either

OK, thanks for the response. Still hands-down better than stock and very happy with them.

Yep, as dabears2k said, the slight shadow is from the electrical post/lead that goes to the end of the glass bulb. All the HID kits will have that. After a while you will get to where you don't even pay attention to it anymore.
