Lightweight Windshield from Sector111

Ok guys,
Some of you have been waiting for this product for awhile, and here it is;
Our Lightweight Windshield from Speedglass. My car is becoming more and more just a track car and I am looking forward to replacing my pitted up windshield with this one.

For track and race use only.

Stock Lotus Windshield = 27 lbs.
Sector111 Speedglass windscreen = 11 lbs

This revolutionary LEXAN polycarbonate windscreen is a lightweight, yet heavy-duty alternative to your heavy glass windshield. This race windscreen is made exclusively for us by Percy's High Performance Inc.

Here are a few facts:

Track Worthy
• Flexible and extremely shatterproof.
• Hard, non-porous surface resists racing chemicals, fuels and oils.
3/16" thick.
• Hardware kit included.*
• Speedglass is trusted worldwide by professional drivers in drag racing, drifting, speed boat, and NASCARTM events.

Excellent Optical Clarity
• Scratch resistant coating.
— Covers both sides of the windshield.
— Tested for scratch resistance with steel wool.
• Water instantly beads up and blows off!
• Special molding technique eliminates distortion.

Easy Maintenance
• No extra polishes or cleaners needed - uses standard glass cleaner.
• Windshield wiper friendly.

NOTICE: These windshields ARE NOT D.O.T. CERTIFIED. Track use only.
*Professional installation recommended.

nice! Cool that Percy's made it. I was watching SEMA on SPEED and they visited their booth. I was going to check their website to see if they made windows for the Lotus.

What about the door windows??

How much are the standard glass windshields?

Neil,

Is this any different than installing a factory replacement windshield? Would a typical mobile winshield/glass replacement company be able to handle this? Any install directions you can post?

Outside of the fact that it's not DOT approved, is there any other reason a person wouldn't want to replace their windshield with the new lexan one for daily use?

Are there any safety issues?

I've been told by Percy's that any Mobile windshield company or any race shop can perform the install. I kit comes with detailed instructions. I was counting on Perryeyges to do the first install and provide plenty of nice photos, but he went and cut his whole windshield surround off!

Get me one on the house and I'll photograph the install, document it, AND get you a certain signature you've been looking for...

I volunteer to help photograph the install, but only if Geneveive installs it.

Believe me, you WILL get publicity

Thanks Luke! I like this deal.

Seriously, my stock windshield is so sandblasted I can't see through it certain times of the day. I'd love to see if this is a workable solution. For the track, of course.

i know the the glass gets little rock chips. but would really a lexan windshield prevent further rock chips? i mean it says its scratch resistent (which generally means movement (rubbing like) back fourth... doesn't say anything about flying projectiles...

while shatterproof, i'm sure the lexan will eventually take on chips too no?

Rock chips are one thing, but mine is LITERALLY sand blasted. As in 100 + DPI. Anything will be better at this point.

Neil,

Are there any special precautions or techniques for attaching a rear view mirror to the speedglass?

When you take out the old windscreen is it still useable? Is there some market for used OEM windscreens? Would make the 599 go done effectively by a bunch. I see a trip to the glass shop and saying, move all windscreens one to the left...

Percy's Speedglass makes parts for everything from NASCAR, to cycles and Jeeps. It's nice to see someone has talked them into doing parts for the Elise. A rear window would be a nice option as well.

As far as special precautions I would ask the installer, it would be nice if they've already done a similar job in the past. As for the rear view mirror, you will have to get another mirror attachment puck from your dealer and you will have to scratch off some of the scratch resistant coating off the inside of the windscreen in order to stick the mirror puck back on.

+1. If they make the rear window, that would be great as we hear lot of stories on shattered rear window with tops open while almost none on the windshield. i would love to upgrade the rear just for this.

A projectile that hits the Speedglass will only pit the windscreen unlike the OEM glass which is more likely to crack the glass. The Speedglass will pit over time, but that is why we are working on a product called ProShield... Racing windshield tearoffs (multi-layer) These should be available in the beginning of the year.

Due to popular demand, we will probably be working on side windows and the rear as well.
