FS:Trunk hatch drain kits.

I made up a few kits for sale.

Pictures tell most of the story.

Works perfect on my car, keeps the trunk dry.

Bulkhead fitting is visible with hatch closed. I just noticed this today.
You can see the fitting in the gap. I enclosed a picture.

Bulkhead fitting is Stainless Steel (custom machined part) .

Washer and nut are stainless steel.

Kits come with custom ground drill bit for clean cut through fiberglass.

Install will require a small amount of silicon sealer. I put silicon on the bulkhead fitting flange and around the stem that passes through the bottom of the trunk.

$35.00 shipped. Paypal preferred. jimclayton@mac.com

The fitting is not installed in an existing hole - you have to drill a new one for that. The hose exits an existing hole...

Got mine. Very nice kit. I missed in the above post that Jim was supplying this spiffy drill bit.

I think the kit is underpriced and you should buy it before he comes to his senses.

Do the trunks really leak? I've not had that problem yet, but I have yet to encounter any "Real" rain -- i've seen light mistings only...

I have had my car for almost a year and I have not found it to be a problem

I think I would miss the space in the boot...I fill it up, every bit

My trunk leaked when I got it. I adjusted the lock mechanism and voila! No leak.

sorry. I mean. My trunk used to leak then I installed Jims kit and voila! No leaks. Not only that, it actually sucks water off of the surface of the car so I no longer have to dry the car after washing it. I lost 51 pounds in 2 weeks. My dog likes me again. Even my acne has cleared up. All of this has occurred since installing the drain. This drain kit has changed my life. I plan to install this kit on all of my vehicles.

Seriously, I doubt that my car is exposed to the level of wet that your car is exposed to. I live in the arid midwest. It is practically a desert.

I actually think that you did a great job on the design

I have installed it and it seems to work great. For me, it is a piece of mind when travelling and forgetting that I parked on a slope when it starts to rain. I also wondered of driving up a long grade in the rain could cause leakage.

The amount of room it takes up is close to nothing.

LOL ,

I did try and fiddle with the trunk latch. Didn't work for me. The flexibility of the lid seems to prevent a good seal.

I have a lot of free time and a machine shop 10 paces from my office.

Randy, thanks for the support. Glad you like the kit.

Mine installed without any problem. It's another one of those things that Lotus "shoulda shipped this way".

One part I missed in the instructions was that you have to enlarge the existing hole in the bottom of the trunk (above the license plate). The plastic fitting is bigger than the hole.

Also, a little silicone adhesive helps hold the bottom nozzle in place.

Last, I've considered drilling a second hole in the bottom of the trunk. The hole that was there is now occupied and blocked by the drain hose. That means that if the trunk were to somehow fill with water, the puddle would stand without draining. I doubt it will happen, but a second hole is probably better.

Excellent points.

Thanks for the pointers.

The drain kit works great and eliminates all worries associated with a wet trunk after hand washing the car.

Thanks again Jim!

I have "sold out" of the first run of kits. Thanks for your patronage.

I may machine a second run.

Thanks again,

Jim

Just a thought...why not use a banjo bolt and just drill right through the head of the bolt.
Or, turn the bolt upside down, and change the plastic fitting to an eye shaped fitting.
