Fall. A time of autumn leaves, Halloween, pumpkins, and TECH DAYS! Come out to the season's "MUST DO" SoCal event, the Garage Woolery Fall Tech Day!

This is an all day, "come and go as you please" event. It is also a potluck, so BYOB and bring some food/snacks/tools/advice/help if you can. Come out to turn a wrench, socialize...or stick around for poker nite! We may also have a live band for entertainment (still being arranged).

If you have a large maintenance project in mind for the tech day (ie, suspension swap, big brake conversion, timing belt change) please notify me ASAP so I can reserve you a spot appropriate for the job you plan to do. First come, first served.

Vendors are also welcome to come out to the tech day, so if you have anything you'd like to sell, or you're a vendor, or you know of a vendor who'd like to come, feel free to invite them or refer them to me so I can help them get set up on site.

These seasonal tech days are very well attended. If you've never come out to one before, now is the time to come out to see what you've been missing! See you there!

If we would like to do a large maintenance job, but are not mechanically inclined, will there be guys we can bribe with alcohol who would be willing to be kind enough to offer their services?

Of course, the alcohol would be after the job is done.

I can bring plenty of beer if needed...

I think that depends on what the job is and who's around/available that's willing and able to help. This is essentially a shade-tree mechanics party. Most people bring their cars with some odd jobs they want to do, others come by because they don't have any maintenance facilty/garage of their own. Generally there are some pretty skilled folks who attend and are willing to help others, though...sometimes in the form of advice, other times lending a hand. What is it you're looking to do?

Would some one there maybe be able to teach/show how to do an at home alignment? That’s something I would vary much like to learn how to do.

I just bought a nice hefty Torque wrench with adapter for the Lotus tool, I was going to re - torque all of my wheels to 77 ft lbs since I have had tires replaced and I don't trust that the people torqued properly. And this seems to be common even in the dealerships to use airtools that put the torque at over a 100 ! Maybe I will cruise by with my torque wrench and anybody else who is concerned can re do their wheels as well......

I'm sure there'll be people there with the knowledge, but we probably won't be able to do an alignment due to space restrictions. Keep in mind that we'll have several dozen cars showing up and only enough room for maybe 10 cars to have work done on them at any one time...and the primo spot(s) that would be necessary to do a home alignment have already been claimed by people doing suspension swaps, brake jobs, and rollbar installs (among other things).

Sure, you're more than welcome to come by, even if you don't really have much work to do. It's as much a social event as a "working" one.

ARG!

David!

16 Lotus cars are planning to go to Hearst Castle October 25th!
Including ME!

Is there a way to delay your tech day to November?

Oooooh...sorry, can't do that. It's already been publicized on several forums, and I have dozens of RSVP's already. Maybe we can get together for the Winter Tech Day instead. I hold them every season.

No worries if no one can show from the Lotus community this time around, though you'll always be welcomed.

Thumbs up

Sounds interesting, and your only 17 minutes away. Tech day sounds very educational and I have a huge thirst for knowledge. I will certainly be attending to this.

See you there David!

Thanks a lot for hosting the tech day David ,we had a blast and the twistie roads you told us to take on the way home were awesome ! You have some amazing cars, and garage ! Great people there too! - look forward to next one - and hopefully some more Lotus will show up next time. BTW people who have had their wheels removed at a dealership or tire shop, check the torque on the lug nuts by hand with a torque wrench. Mine were WAY over tightened - supposedly this can damage your brake rotors or at least age them a lot quicker !!!

I wish I had thought to bring a camera - David has the Atom of course but also a wicked Mazda race car he designed that is monster, looks like a 60s car but is lighter than Elise - totally stripped out, roll bar etc. Some amazing other Mazdas there as well - and people doing everything from installing roll cages - suspensions and exhaust systems ! Def need more Lotus next time and we can plan a group drive there, some really fun roads up near his place ! - maybe do a BBQ as well and get somebody like S111 to come hang out?
