Alright....the date is official. October 25 and 26. I am working on places to stay, tours at the Castle, and other things to do in addition to the Castle.
Will keep the thread updated, and will post a tentative schedule of events later this week.

It would not hurt to look at what we did/stayed/ate when we all did the WCLM a couple years ago. Winery tour. Back roads. Highway 1. Morro Bay. Etc

Well, looks like I may not make it. My high school reunion has been finalized and is on Oct 25th. So, I can't do both at the same time.

As long as it's not on the Nov GGLC AutoX date, I'm in. Coming from NorCal. Drive down highway 1. Will keep checking to see how this is progressing.

There's a great campground right at San Simeon. Anyone ever camp out of an Elise?

Please vote for Oct 24 - 26

I will be on vacation the following week. But if we are talking about the week of 10/24 - 10/26, my wife and I are going to be there 100%. My wife loves Hearst Castle.

I'm planning on driving up from Orange County, taking the 405 to the 101 to PCH. We'll probably take Friday off and leave early in the day, stop by Santa Barbara, Solvang and San Luis Obispo along the way.

We are going to stay at The Orchard Inn.

If anybody else is looking to stay there, you may want to book the a Traveler Room. Their website describes the Traveler Rooms as being in a separate building, with more modest decor and a bit less expensive.

I.E. this: instead of

However.. According to the person I spoke on the phone with, they are in the process of remodeling and both buildings will have the same decor by mid-October. Their prices will increase to reflect the remodeling of the rooms in the other building. So if you book a Traveler Room now, you get the old pricing for effectively a newer, nicer room.

The price difference is only about $30, but that's a tank of gas for me!

Aight kids. Sorry it's taken awhile to pull this together...the Hearst curator has been out for almost a month. He is now back in the office....and it looks like we are most likely getting a private tour. I am still negotiating with him...he owes me one!!....I think they may ask for a donation to the Friends of Hearst Castle, probably around $20 a person. They will reserve a whole area of the parking lot just for us as well as have a security officer oversee our vehicles.
Is anyone else a confirmed yes or no? I estimated between 20-25 cars so far, and of course it will make a difference in the tour setup. We may need to break up into a few different groups.

Saturday, October 25 would be the date...arriving at around 2pm at the Castle.
My contact at Hearst recommended Best Western Cavalier in San Simeon, they handle large groups and we can get a good rate. They have plenty of rooms available for that weekend as well as plenty of parking. Any objections?

On Sunday, we could do a local drive or wine tasting in Cambria or if anyone has any other suggestions thats great too. Since this sounds like it will be a big group, I think it would be best to have a few different activities for people to do.

^sounds good, if we do decide to stay at the Best Western in San Simeon are we going to reserve the rooms as a group or individually?

FYI - When we had the WCLM in '06 we had a large group go to HC. We didn't have a problem at all as far as parking and didn't have a need for security. But if you can get them to do it for free

It's On!!!!

Ok, on Saturday, we have two private tours set up (for approx 10-15 people each)
We are getting the "Tour 2" which is the Gardens and the upper floors of Casa Grande (the biggest building of the Hearst Complex)
The tour will be on October 25 at 2:20pm.
I got the cost down to $10 a person

Best Western Cavalier sounds like a good call. They are 3 miles from the Castle and have 15 rooms available. They do bonfires every night at sunset on the bluffs nearby.

I have reserved all 15 rooms for us, but each person/couple needs to call in and individually reserve their room. Any unclaimed rooms will default back to the hotel if not claimed by October 4.

There are 5 oceanfront rooms at $299
5 ocean view rooms at $199
and 5 standard rooms at $149

PM me the number to call and the reservation name.

Check in is at 4pm, so we would have to check in after the tour...and check out is noon. The wineries at Cambria/Paso Robles are close by so on Sunday that could be fun. There are some good Lotus roads closeby too, I know that's where I will be!

Please let me know ASAP if you are coming.

Thanks and see y'all soon!
