in cal club, formula cars are basically dead(except for the 40th reunion race).

there is a reason i run my swift with HSR west----------the size of the fields.
the SRF looks like its the way to go for safety, competition, and cars holding their $ value for resale, not to mention a CSR at the track.

I am going to be moving into the class at some point (soon i hope).

racing a formula car is fun, but only when you have other cars to compete with in you class, otherwise its basically an HPDE day(which would get old very fast).
whenever i look at getting into a new class of car, the first thing i do is to look at the field sizes of that class on the results sheets in the past 2 seasons.

I would NOT buy a FB, or CSR/DSR for those reasons

the SRF looks very appealing to me to race SoCal, NoCal, and Tx.
I enjoy spec racing and feel that by adding a spec class to lcs in 2010 has merit. As for now lets start a new thread called srf/ spec racing and lets keep this Buttonwillow thread alive with related posts.

OK, back on topic:

I'm doing my homework for the weekend; analyzing three laps, specifically the entry to the Bus Stop...

According to your data, your fastest time in the bus stop segment is in the second row, which corresponds with the fastest entry speed of 80.94.
However, I think the more important data point is your exit speed in row 3 of 84.77 because this is what's going to lead you into the very fast Riverside.
So I would take the lap of row 3 as the best "lap" or segment regarding the Bus Stop. It would be nice to know how much throttle you were using for this best segment in comparison to your other laps.

You can get a pretty good idea of how much throttle I was using if you look at the Accel/Braking Gs plot. On the red lap, I was full throttle through the entry but gave up throttle on the apex, on blue, I was adding throughout the corner, and on black I was late to throttle.

I think the best lap through the bus stop was blue... the exit speed was almost as the same as the black lap, but if you look at the "Time Gap" plot, blue catches up to both red and black from the Bus Stop on...

In summary, the blue lap kept the speed high throughout the segment, especially the exit (much like the analysis you posted of Schumacher's style)

Really, you need a sphinkter strain sensor. I'm sure you'll find one in the program somewhere. If you do, you'll probably see much more strain at Bus Stop entry than anywhere else on the track. At BusStop one could conclude that the lower your sphinkter strain the deeper your brake pt.

Of course, nailing the previous three turns has everything to do with how much Prep-H you'll need that night, since if you F those up even a little bit you're probably off line hanging on by the fingernails right up to Bus Stop and of course, that effects Bus Stop. In other words, focusing on that short bit of segment data doesn't tell you much. That turn is all about carrying speed as far into it from the long high speed section from cotton corners. Carrying that speed from Bus Stop to Riverside is less important since you need to lay back a little at Riverside entry anyway and the preceding section is relatively short.

On a practical note, and assume I know very little, I brake real late and lightly, downshift and go wot at apex to maintain rear traction. Very scary indeed. How some do it without a downshift can only be answered by a higher authority cuz that tactic has put me out in the weeds several times with old Blossom. The Green Machine may allow it - we shall see!

See you all on Sat AM with my dirty little Lotus. She's raring for some action!

Anyone need a new set of R888s in LSS sizes - shaved/heat cycled? I can bring them and they can be mounted at the track. $800 set.
