For me it does not make alot of sence to drive from the Santa Monica Mountains area to MDR only to return from the place I started.

While I never been on one of your drive, so I may have no right to post suggestions in this thread. But it might make sense for those of us coming from the other direction to meet at some mid-point. While Larry suggested the VCR, and he got blasted for it, I would suggest so that you guys can come up the coast, might want to have a secondary meeting area there, like Neptunes Net, at the base of Mulholland on the coast, parking lot at Kanan and PCH, or where ever.

When we first started this drive waaaaaay back in the middle of 2005. When enough people from the areas around the twisties posted interest in coming on a particular week. We would meet them either at the 76 station on the PCH or back in the parking lot where Nobu's is and the Porsche store.

a secondary "meeting point" up in the Malibu area is certainly a possiblity. We'd just need some coordination so we can make sure we leave MDR at a certain time to be at the meeting point at a certain time.

i think i speak for many of us who feel suggestions that are relevant and incorporate the MDR meet and its participants are always welcome and are never an issue. we're all open to different options, ideas and discussions. so keep the suggestions coming.

what we want to be crystal clear about last week's issue with the individual who got "blasted" was because of the "forget your meet and come out to Village Coffee!" nature of the post in question, which of course cannot be referenced for those who were not involved because the Communists have censored it and the posts have been subsequently removed.

Yes, in order to go to Supercar Sunday (or Gold Chain Sunday as it is now referred to) one would have to completely skip the MDR meet as SCS is pretty much over by 9am

I understand. That is why I typically will make canyon runs alone, while it run to do group runs, the advantages doing them alone is I can usually run them faster than in a group and becuase I am running them faster, cars and motorcycles will let you through and get an adeneline rush.

I thought there used to be a group that met at Chuy's in Agoura on Sundays, but there only seems to be the drives Hal throws together.

I was just on the Angeles Crest and Upper Big Tujunga today. Today is Thursday and the CHP was having a field day writing tickets and being generally nasty. The leader of our group was harassed for 25 minutes, while the rest of us were forced to move on and wait for him elsewhere. He was eventually given a no front license plate ticket. I don't know why Poncherello let the rest of us off. After that, we left the area and went for lunch. It was a crappy drive.

In addition to the CHP, the Angeles Forest is not the driving place I remembered from a few years ago. I used to really love it up there. Now the roads seem like straightaways compared to Malibu and Ojai.

I do like the idea of a variety of places to drive, but I don't think I'll ever go to Angeles forest again, especially not on a Sunday.

Oh, did I mention it was really hot there too. Also, way more bugs splattered on the front of my car and helmet compared to my regular drives. Also when we are stopped and waiting for our leader to finish his enlightenment discussion with Officer Friendly, there were zillions of flies swarming around us.

A bad place to go.

(But then again that's just my opinion.)

^agree...angeles crest has been swarmed by COPS as of late, its pretty hard to "top" the malibu twisties as far as driving experience is concerned^

I didn't mean to make everyone so angry here on this thread. I suggested I might see some of you at SuperCar Sunday last week.

Sorry if it looked like a "hijack" which I did not intend it to be.

Always nice to see you guys.

Hope to join you at MDR one of these days. You have a great run up PCH.

that's too bad, because some of the roads are very nice and the scenery is fantastic. but i did hear a while back that the chippies were indeed nailing people for stupid stuff

well, i'm still in town this weekend so i'll show up at MDR regardless of where we're headed.

I see there is some interest in meeting up for the Lotus Drive & Picnic in Los Angeles and it would be awesome to join forces.

Before we get to the real incline, we will do a regroup and meet up with some other folks at the shell station on Angeles Crest (2) just north of Foothill around 11:45 - 12:00 for the second leg. Bring a bag lunch (picnic) to enjoy at the top. Hope to see you there!

I think part of the problem was that drive was scheduled for too early in the morning for that area. I have spent a bit of time shooting and testing cars up there during the week and usually there is no police in the middle of the day, but they patrol early and late when people start using the road to commute

Yes, that is a good hypothesis mopho... but it's completely wrong. Our leader received the ticket at about 10:45 in the morning, well after the morning commute.

+1 and a real bogus one at that. The cop said he heard us speeding (didn't see us, heard us). Not one of us had a loud exhaust. Though a lot of motorcycle deaths up there as I have posted before. I thought all of us were crazy. THese guys have a death wish and will lean into an outside turn with a 1,000 ft drop hit gravel and BYE BYE. I had one of my rides stopped while they took the body away in a helicopter. Boy was I pissed, he ruined a great drive.
