Wow,
Wish I knew about this! Was there a post on this? I didn't see it. Hopefully next time. I met Jay a times while working at GM. He would often come to Design Staff to see a project that the studio's were working on for him. Also the Studio in North Hollywood was trying to arrange a viewing of the garage since it was near in Burbank. Sadly I missed the tour if it occurred. I had a friend who works at Nike who has seen the collection. He says it's awesome. So next time I hope to meet up with you guys and see the collection finally! -C

I'd park it that way too - avoid door dents.
Lucky bastard Jacob!

He's not blocking another spot, its a red curb to the left.
And besides, I doubt anyone would key Leno's car (the spot has his name on it)...

I think this actually makes the Deronda look bad:
Deronda USA From power alone it has 585HP/tonne, versus over 960HP/tonne on the others. Sure, torque is is about 170lb/ft more, but at 1100lbs this makes less difference than it sounds and the torque-to-weight more than makes up for it, anyway. So, at almost half the weight, twice the power-to-weight, twice to torque-to-weight, a six-speed (versus 5-speed), smaller 15" tires (improving corner-to-corner acceleration and road feel), and a small capacity high revving engine (a 7L engine is just ridiculous in a car like this!!), etc - I don't really see how the Deronda competes. Of course, there is the price. That's the only place it does compete. Sure, it's half the price, but the cars are not even in the same league! They should compare this to a Corvette, not an Atom or Caterham! I feel this car embodies the problem with the majority of American car manufacturers - stick a huge engine in a car, add huge wheels, and sell it as low as possible. Now, it might be that their target market likes that kind of thing, but I'd rather pay the $230K rather than throw away $100K. Besides, even the BASE Atom would outperform this thing, and that only costs $65K!!! Just to prove the point, notice how they did not mention ANY performance figures when comparing the cars? Wouldn't the performance figures be one of the most important things in this kind of car? "Competitive comparison" indeed! (sorry for the rant) ![]() S.

Thanks for the kind and not so kind words about the Deronda. The positive responses let us know that we are on the right track. The negative responses keep us humble and remind us that there is more work to do.
In regards to the comparison chart. This was in response to a number of questions on how the Deronda compares to the V8 Atom and V8 Caterham. The chart is just information for you to come to your own conclusion. We do not say which car is better. That can only be decided after you have driven them. |

Thanks for the reply. As I said, I don't think the pics for the most part do the car justice. In person, I think it looked pretty good.

and the person who parks next to him is NBC local newsguy Paul Moyer, who himself has a nice collection of F-cars, a Porsche and a Ford GT, so there's not as much risk of door dings. I'm just a bit surprised they never built him a carport or something, it's not fair to see the sun and even rain bear down on some of those vehicles.

The comparison chart is useful - but I think leaving out the performance comparison REALLY makes the comparison incomplete at best, and useless at worse. Those other vehicles are a lot more expensive, but the whole point is performance - if you don't include that, then you have no idea what you're paying a difference of $130K+ for! I think that either the performance specs and the price should be included, or both should be left out - else it's not a fair comparison. Also, some independent on-track performance reviews, preferably in a group test with the Atom and Caterham, would be nice. In that group test the car should be put up against Atom's and Caterham's in the SAME price range, of course. Buying all three and deciding for ourselves is generally out of the price range of most of us ![]() Thanks! S.
