Pics from Woodland Hills 11-30-08

Cost of living in SoCal = insane.
Real estate prices in SoCal = even more insane.
Traffic on SoCal freeways = ridonkulous.

Year-round car culture in SoCal = PRICELESS!

Woodland Hills, CA, 11-30-08. Y'all know the scene, so here's some pics for y'uns in cold country. Sorry for the iPhone pics, I was gripping a coffee and a smoke while shooting pics... there were hundreds of cars this week, here is a tiny sample:

I took this one a few months back, but I had to include it... this is the "El Bastioni", which was hand-built from an American LaFrance firetruck chassis. It was on B-J last time I watched.

Okay, you know you're entering the upper reaches of disposable income when you see this: a freaking Phantom that's been murdered-out, and I mean ALL THE WAY... rims, grille, sidemarkers, the works. Holy crap this thing is a monster, and it looks pretty darn cool. Vader himself would roll in this. The perfect car for the warlord of the coming Zombie Apocalypse! For a laugh, check the size differential to the matte black Lotus next to it... the Lotus's roof is below the beltline on the Roller!

I love the fact that they are parked at Taco Bell. Sorry, but matte black cars in the shade don't photograph well on cameraphones...

Ford GT Heritage... I think this is still my all-time favorite.

A pair of Countachs...

Godzilla was there; a couple of them, actually... the Super Silver really looks great. They sound lame though.

Ferraris and Fords side-by-side, that's the essence of the SoCal car scene....

Cuda Al's burly AAR:

Lovely Mangusta with 22 feet of Caddy barge passing behind...

Old Chrysler with GT500 ragtop behind....

Gotta love the VW safari van (with tilt-out windshields) on airbags...

Funky ratrod scraper for $13k. It was LOUD.

Another perfect SoCal car pic: Porsche CGT ($400k) with awesome flake green Ford (?) panel and krazy blown-Hemi Willys.

Lambo Miura (such a beautiful car, a true work of art on wheels...) next to that same Willys.

Carrol Shelby thing that he made a while back... I remember it but forget what it's called. Very rare, big HP, big bucks ACTUAL Shelby roadster. Nearby was a black Cobra that had a sign on it saying it was the actual, very first, AC Cobra that Shelby converted. CSX01 or whatever. Just parked there, nobody guarding it or anything.... just noticed the 08 Chally in the background!

Many Mopars that were much nicer than my ragbag.... sweet '70 Hemi Challenger convert, a couple of perfect Chargers, a 'Runner, etc...

Ariel Atom. Nice.

Sweet old Triumph with a sidehack:

A little hard to tell with all the clams open, but I think this was an Ultima... anyone?

Has sir decided what color Cobra sir would like?

1956 Mayflower, I think.... anyone?

Mayflower exits, Maserati enters...

When's the last time you saw a Qvale?

Or, for that matter, a Jensen Interceptor III convertible?

And finally, here's my driveway this morning.... green 'Cuda, yellow SSR (wife's), and purple Charger. I decided on the Cuda. (Easy choice since the Charger has no brakes!)

Don't fear, my Lotus is near. Under cover just out of the frame...

Did I mention that I love Kalifornia?

The Shelby in question was called a Shelby Series 1.

Re the first Cobra converted by Shelby...if it didn't have a 260 cid Ford engine, it wasn't the first. The first few Shelby Cobras had 260's, not 289's.

Yah. The little Cobra in question was black, and it looked to have a smallblock but the crowd around it was too thick to even get a pic. Not that I could tell a Ford 260 from a 289 without a long history lesson!

What's trully amazing is that that parking lot is filled to the brim with those incredable cars EVERY Sunday!(called Supercar Sunday) Actualy, the best day is usually the first Sunday of every month (which is next week) but that looked like one hell of a turn out. I guess cause it's Thanksgiving weekend. Gotta love socal.

From what I've heard and read, I believe the LAST Sunday of the month is considered the big one.

..if only they did it a bit later in the day on Sundays.
I love cars, but I also like going out on Saturday nights and sleeping-in until Noon on Sunday!

Well, yeah, actually this WAS the big week (last weekend of the month is the big one). Plus, it being Thanksgiving weekend, folks probably had relatives in town, and it's fun to fire up the krazy kar and take the nephews out to a cruise-in before they hop the plane back to snow-land, so that probably raised the turnout some.

It's a blast though, and so awesome to have it so nearby.
