Dave (rackhenry) brought out his Audi A4 as "rain insurance". Didn't need it, but held his own and kept up okay. Well, we at least saw him when we stopped at each of the intersections where we change roads . He was done pushing his car that hard by the time we got to Santa Ysabel, so he bailed at that point.

Adam brought the Ferrari. I brought the Exige. We waited a bit and got started late, not sure if others would show.
Strange conditions on the roads today. Traffic was bad on Engineer and towards the end of Old Julian Highway, but completely absent on Mesa Grande, East Grade (climb), and South Grade (descent). No bikes holding us up going up or down, which was extremely nice when compared with the last couple of drives. In fact, there was only 1 bike parked at Mother's Cafe at the top - very strange. On Highland Valley, we had 2 cars immediately in front of us right at the start, and within an 1/8 of a mile, both voluntarily pulled over onto the tiny shoulder, waving us to pass - that was extremely nice. Our late start (by 10-15 minutes) may have been a contributing factor to the traffic patterns we say today, but I'm not so sure .

Overall a fantastic drive, and especially the roads beyond Santa Ysabel (sorry Dave ) where we were traffic free with the occasional stretch of wet asphalt to slow us down in the bends. The smell of the forest and brushland, after the fresh rain, more than compensated for the reduced velocities.

Wished more of you could've come or decided to do it, as we had a blast.

Looking forward to the next one!
Hey nice meeting all you guys! As far as the Audi, sort of funny for me. When I first got it back in 2000 and put Koni's on it, I thought it was pretty decent. After owning the Exige, it felt like I was driving a Lincoln Town car.. relatively speaking.

Now taking suggestions for time/day?

It could follow a drive but I would not recommend having a drive after banging around in the karts. If we get a good enough group they will run a trophy match for us. I did it with the LA/OC clan and trophied in the slow group. I am all for midday anything other than Mon. or Tues.

Then maybe we can have a run off of LA vs. OC vs. SD.

Meh... All bark, no bite... You said you would bring Miss Sweden, but you didn't... You said you would wear mankini, but you didn't... If you want to earn my (and other guy's) respect, you should beat Rus on kart race, while wearing mankini and having Miss Sweden sitting on your lap (preferably, wearing mankini). Unless that happens, Rus will have my support forever.

So, not sure what's going on with the K1 stuff, but is anybody up for driving this weekend?

Sure, it'll be a little warm still, and probably too much therefore to do the Borrego idea that Lisa mentioned a few days back, but perhaps we can vary the route in the mountains by doing Julian and then perahps Cuyamaca or Laguna as opposed to Palomar.

I don't have too strong an opinion on the specifics of where we go, just that we go.

I am racing the boat (single-handed) on Saturday and have to catch a plane Sunday at noon. Be back in a week if anyone wants to do the karting thing over Labor Day weekend.

If I wake up early I'm just going to run up Palomar and Mesa then back home before it gets too hot.

Hi All, just checking back in finally. Started a new job this week so things have been a bit crazy. I agree it's too hot for a desert run but would be up for Julian then perhaps Cuyamaca. Anyone else interested? 7am at the regular spot?

PS-Ilir, I believe you're the one who promised to wear a mankini or go commando, not I. And Rus was the one who suggested I bring Ms Sweden. . But I am looking forward to putting some bite behind my bark at K1!! Let's pick a date!!

C'mon folks, we only need a couple more to make this worthwhile. I need to drive, as I'm completely shut out for Labor Day weekend.

Ilir (schedule permitting), Ed (you can make it down to RB in no time ), Craig (steiner_ca), Dave (schedule permitting), Andrea (will try to figure something out), Paul, Ali, Matt, Ferdie, Andy, and others, let's get on this and make it happen.

I'm thinking we should have at least 3, but preferably 4 to 5 to make this a go, the more the merrier. And as long as we start at 7am like usual, we'll be out of there before the temps get unbearable. Forecast for Julian is 76 degress at 9am, which is perfect weather for the drive.

Let's make it happen peoples . Lots of fence sitters. Seems like the only folks who have stated they can "for sure" make it are me and Lisa.

Who else is in? Let's do this thing.

I'm going to have to miss this one, as I just pulled my car out of the garage to wash it and it was revving high. After washing it I started it up again and was going to take it for a spin and the engine malfunction light went on It was still revving high and it wouldn't respond when trying to accelerate The light is not flashing, it's just on steadily Have any of you had a similar incident?

Wish me luck......going to try to figure it out in the morning.
