Yes it's 55 not 35. you can pull the Vehicle Code #up and it specifies excessive speed in a 55. ~$146 I think. My last ticket was in 06 and prior to that it was 10-12 years previous?

Oh well. I just put my front plate on. Looks crappy.

This is EXACTLY what worried me...cops are getting smart, desperate, and/or more creative. 5 weeks ago (first time I took the CF Elise out to Julian) I got pulled over twice:

first time was one officer claiming I was running red lights, speeding, reckless driving, etc., etc. anything he could throw at me and get a verbal confirmation from me...nothing. checked my docs and I ended up driving away...

second time I was pulled over was around 6PM, two cop cars with two officers each. SAME story, "is the car stolen?", they check VIN numbers on the body and reg., said they had reports from other CHP officers I was running lights and weaving in and out of traffic on the 67 (ALL BS, I'm a slow driver on the streets anyway)...mind you, before me, they had an integra pulled to the side of the road, as soon as I idled passed them at around 20mph, they all jumped in their rides and came after me with their flashing lights.

Needless to say, I'm still a bit traumafied with the cops of late. Went in to see a traffic court cashier for something unrelated and the gal said tickets have gone up like 35% lately! I always say, it looks like they're trying to tax our way out of California's financial mess! Property tax revenue is down, they needs to make up for it somehow! It really is a scam!

So as much as I would love to join all you guys around 7:30AM, I'm not willing to take that risk...took a drive this morning early by myself. I was out there around 5AM and it was nice Cops aren't waking up that early yet in masses...

How'd the rest of you fare?

Considering what I've been doing with this car on public roads for the last four years, I consider myself lucky to get off with the 62 MPH.

See ya next weekend

BTW, fixit tickets are no longer truly Fix It Tickets...there's a $20 "Admin Fee" per infraction! fking nuts! so say...no proof of insurance and front plate...cha chig...$40, automatic...GREAT BUSINESS!

Wow, sorry to hear about all the "tax assessments"... where was the radar trap?

I always catch a bunch of wise*** comments from other Lotus owners regarding my front plate mount... but it's easy to make, attaches with a tow hook (bonus: I never forget my tow hook on a track day), and you can put it on or take it off in 20 seconds. If you're daring, keep it in the boot and if you get pulled over for no front plate, come up with a lame excuse for why you forgot to put it back on... and remount it.

I have been driving back and forth from San Diego to Ventura county almost once a month if not more, for the last seven years. Up until around 3-6 months ago, I would go for half a year and not see any CHP pulling anyone over. Now, Wow, one trip I saw no less than 10 cars pulled over by CHP along the 5/to/405 route up to Ventura. Really proves the above point about revenue.

It was on the last corner heading out of the South Grade. I'm sure he was using "instant on" since I didn't get a peep until I was in the corner and then I saw him. He gave me the ticket and reminded me to be aware that they are all aaround that area and in places I wouldn't expect it. He wasn't a jerk, I was speeding. Meh...I/we got caught.

He did also say that he wasn't going to pull a Porsche over but when he saw I was with the two Elises he said that he had to...........Weird.

Nice meeting you two, We'll have to go a little earlier next time!

I feel sorry for Sat drive. I think it's because of Labor Day long weekend, cops are everywhere more than usual. I went out and I saw more cops than I can usually count in those two nights. Usually I try to avoid going out as much as possible during the long weekend (I'll let my friend drive).

After 4 years of ownership, I am finally operating within the confines of the California Vehicle Code.

That's going to leave a mark...

Really sorry to hear about the CHP-issued speeding tickets, what a bummer.

And while I agree that what they're doing is "fair" and within the law, I don't really concur with their methods (speed traps instead of honest finding and pacing of violators) or their motivation (raising revenue for the state in lieu of keeping the roads safe). It really speaks to the citizens working for the government as opposed to our government working for us, the people. Ok, minor rant over.

Craig, I would be up for anything on our drive that minimizes the chances of getting ticketed by police, as well as trying out new roads down south. Even though I'm coming from North County, I can make that trip south of the 8 pretty quickly. As long as I'm available, you can count me in on a southern drive.

Southern or northern route has chp. The southern route has a few border patrol thrown in and they will pull you over as well. Sunday's generally are better then Saturday's and the earlier the better. Personally, I prefer not getting after it too much on the straights and saving it for the corners.

Sorry to hear about your tickets!

So, we have another weekend coming up...

Is anybody interested in a drive?

North or South, I'm flexible. I can do either day.

Surely, the CHP won't be out there 2 weekends in a row, could they???

I think I got a redlight ticket in Portland on Monday (I didn't run it but I did trigger the camera for some reason). I'm not to keen on going out until I find out if I have two infractions or one.... Blows.

I'm takin' my chances with the CHP...

Just two of us so far, me and Adam (yellow Ferrari 348 ts) are meeting at the SW corner of RB Road and Pomerado Rd spot at 7am tomorrow morning - the usual.

If anyone is up for joining in, we'll see you there.

Most likely head towards Palomar, but maybe we'll throw in a little Julian/Banner Grade route, who knows...

LEOs? Low Earth Orbiting Satellites? They are using spy satellites to get us now?

(Yes, I know, Law Enforcement Officers)

I was thinking the same thing, and now will purposefully leave out any reference to the route. Maybe it's just paranoia, since the tickets last week were on Palomar S. Grade after all, the most likely (or one of the most) spots to see the mobile state revenue generators.

Oh well.
