San Diego Sunday Drive
I religiously take my car through the hills of northern San Diego County every Sunday morning . I will be going out again tomorrow. If any one wants to tag along, or lead the way, lets go! There appears to be plenty of Elises/Exiges in San Diego to get at least a few drivers together and have some fun. I have a pretty good route that I normally do, but I am receptive to any and all suggestions. If you're interested in starting a San Diego area Sunday morning drive, post back.
I'll be leaving the Ramona area about 9:00 AM. MS |

I would be happy to join you. I have done a few solo rides.
Tomorrow though, I will up in Fontana.

Possible Route and Departure Time
Out of Ramona eastbound on 67 or Old Julian Hwy, through Santa Ysabel and Mesa Grande, to the top of Palomar Mt. down East Grade road and.....
If your familiar with Ramona at all, meet in the Stater Brothers Market parking lot, by the Rubios. Southeast corner of Day and Main streets. Departure time totally flexible. I'll be there at 9:00. MS |

That is essentially the route I take to Palomar Mtn. as I go all the way down Scripps-Poway Parkway and turn onto 67. Perhaps next weekend for me as well, busy tomorrow.
Some other events that should come back? - Monthly dinner - Temecula Wine tour in August (someone is already doing leg work on this) |

The monthly dinner would be a start to enable planning.
I have a nice route mapped out. Palms to Pines. Out old 94 towards Tecate. Across up to the Mountains. Out S2. Back through Julian and 76 to I-15. Just need to implement it. ![]()

I could be in. I live in the west end of Ramona anyway. Just need to check with my wife when she gets home.
Of course, you could meet up in Ramona at someplace cooler than a supermarket, like the Amy Strong Castle (which is at the Mt. Woodson Golf course - 16422 N Woodson Dr, Ramona, CA, near the intersection of 67 and Archie Moore Road in the west end of Ramona). Also, to start your drive out to Ramona right, come to Ramona via Highland Valley road, not 67. |

Chris H and I did the Sunday drive today. From Ramona through Julian, over Mount Laguna, back up through Cuyamaca and home through Julian. Great weather and not too much traffic.
Anyone interested in the next few Sundays? MS |

Exactly where and when?
MS, I keep checking your work place for your car, I go the factory there often. But I never see the car under its cover there.

Randy,
As far as a meeting place for the drive on Sunday, I'm wide open to suggestions and don't mind travelling a bit. Last Sunday Chris H and I met in Ramona, but we both live there. Have any suggestions? Earlier start times are better for me. As far as the Elise at work goes, I drive it in about three or four times a month. Usually I'm in the Toyota Tacoma. MS |

I would love to come, but will be on vacation on July 16 and the following Sunday, July 23. Maybe the one after.
Mike didn't mention that we took some of the little back roads off to the south west of Julian on the way back. Engineers Road -> Boulder Creek -> Eagle Peak -> Pine Hills |

If the goal is to go through Mesa Grande on the way to Palomar, then the San Diego residents could meet where Group Loop started his last drive, near Pomerado/Highland Valley Rd. in Rancho Bernardo. The San Diego people could take Highland Valley to the 67 and then meet the Ramona folks somewhere in that area. Then we could all head towards Mesa Grande.
I guess it depends where you all want to go. |

Vantage has a good point. Highland Valley is worth it. We could meet in Rancho Bernardo at the intersection of Pomerado and Rancho Bernardo Roads on the southwest corner, across from the Shell gas station. From there we could head up HVR through Ramona and on through to Mesa Grande. A trip up Palomar is really close from there and it's also a good stopping point. (you can check out the sportbikes) I would like to get an early start to avoid the Camrys and motorhomes. How does 9 A.M. on Sunday sound? Again, I'm flexible.
Any takers? MS |

Then, of course, you all need to meet at Mother's for lunch, and then visit the observatory (I can never pass it up when I am up there).
I recommend taking South Grade Road up and East Grade Road down. South Grade is just so much fun going up. |
