See you tomorrow, remember to fill up on gas.

Mike,

It was a pleasure meeting you, Mike, and your friends, Evan and Matt. Thank you so much for all your driving tips and directions and most of all, for an awesome introductory drive - I had the best time of my life this morning following you guys in my Elise from Rancho Bernardo to Julian. Felt like a kid again. Without a doubt, it was the best drive ever had in any vehicle, with the sharpt twists, turns, going up and down the mountain, basically flying in the wind. It was a 77-mile roller coaster ride! The elise handled superbly and flawlessly - truly a race car performance - she hunkered down, flew and turned where ever I pointed to. The scenery along the way was spectacular/breathtaking all the way up and down the mountain, peaking at over 6000 ft. I forgot how beautiful and green the countryside looks after a nice rain. We couldn't ask for a more perfect weather, mid 50's, partly cloudy/sunny and breezy. Man, I've been missing out all these times. I am totally convinced now, more than ever, that I have made a right decision by getting this Elise. Can't wait for the next drive. Thanks again, Mike. Hopefully, there will more Elise/Exige join us next time....be safe.

By the way, I fueled up before and after the 77-mile-drive and the 36 miles driving back home on I-8. I've got 30.64 MPG! Holy Moly!

Andy, I have yet to join the SD guys on their Sunday drives, I sometimes run the Malibu cyns with the Marina Del Rey guys.

Let me know when you plan to do the SD Sunday drive again.

Phil,

I'm in downtown LB so any drive with twisties in LA, OC or SD is good2go for me. That was my first Lotus drive ever - Mike showed us some very technical, challenging, but extremely fun routes to test/learn the handling of the Elise and my driving ability. I wish more Elise/Exige owners could have joined us - would have been so much fun. There were only four of us, 2 Elises, Z4 Coupe, and a Miata. So, same to you Phil, whenever you guys do the Malibu Canyons, any LA or OC runs, please advise. As always, the more the merrier, thanks.

Andy

It looks like it will be a beautiful weekend in San Diego county, and I finally have some time free. So, I'm in for a Sunday morning drive. I plan on meeting at the usual location and time (south west corner of Rancho Bernardo Road and Pomerado Road in the grocery store parking lot, start gathering at 8:30 am and leave by 9 am).

This would probably be a good time to do a loop through Borrego Springs before the summer heat starts up.

zOOmz, are you up for a ride with the group? You can leave your car in the parking lot at the meeting place (the strip mall won't care).

The SouthBay goodbye event is a one-time thing, so go to it. There will always be more San Diego Sunday drives.

Can not make it this weekend . But if someone does go be careful on mesa grande; I went on a little drive this morning with some friends and two of them flew of the road at the same place (90-100 degree right hander), one of the guys was really lucky with no damage to his car, not even a scratch; while the other driver had to call a tow truck for a busted front end. While we were waiting for a tow truck, a superbike tried to take the same corner (we waived warning him to slow down) but he also flew off the road really messing up the side of his nice bike. Remember don't drive the roads back there like you do on the track. (apparently, according to the family that lives at this corner; 10-15 cars fly off this corner every weekend)

I drive Mesa Grande pretty often. Was there something unusual today about that curve? Oil or dirt or something else on the road surface?

Hey Chris, I'm not going to the South Bay thing. If you're still up for a drive, I'm in. I'll be there at 8:30-9:00 Sunday.

I was on Highland Valley today and there was some road work just after the blind crest, heading up. It may be cleaned up by Sunday, but heads up anyway.

I think that there was a little bit of gravel at the beginning of the turn, and some of these guys were driving faster than their abilities allowed, especially for a blind corner like this.

There was also road work right before Old Julian Highway; but they were working pretty quickly, so I think they should be done by sunday.

I'm still planning on going.

I doubt they will be working on Highland Valley Road on Sunday morning. I take Highland Valley Road to and from work every day. They have been doing work off an on for the last year. I don't recall seeing them work on weekends much.

The biggest concern on Highland Valley on Sunday morning will be bicycles.

How about Einstein Bagel's off of the 78 @ Jefferson? Then we can shoot up the 5 or coast or wherever to get to South Bay. 8:30 or 9am?

San Diego Sunday Drive Regulars, Volnteers Needed

Hey,

Randy asked me to pick a route for the touring portion of the Memorial Day Weekend Event he is planning. The drive will start on Sunday morning the 27th, in Coronado and terminate in coastal north county around 3PM. I have selected a route, now I need volunteers to help guide the group through the backroads. Given the broad experience levels expected for the drive, I am asking for leaders as well as sweepers to help keep people on track. Please let me know if you are willing and available to help. It should be pretty easy.

Jeph, Mini Bizzarrini, CALtd, Gameson, Chris H, O4dW, Post back or PM me if you want to help.

Mike
