December Fastrack

This is the item i found in the dec. fastrack.

"Stock: Per the SAC, studs and bolts are not considered “similar items” and conversion between them is not allowed, except as per Section 13.4. (ref. 08-477)"

What is the motivation behind this? Does that mean for those of us who use the stud conversion now has to remove them?? I really do not see anybody is going to gain ANY advantage on car performance, except we don't get kill by dropping the wheels on ourselves changing tires.

I wonder how many Elise on the grid that didn't have the conversion done?

Whoa, that was the first thing I did to my 2nd Elise. Glad I don't have to worry about switching it back. That blows.

If you look at the Solo rulebook, Section 13.4 (which is the exception to the new changes) is the language that explains that "Wheel studs, lug nuts, and/or bolt length may be changed." So, it appears that there is no change to the allowance for wheel stud conversions if I'm understanding the question correctly.

Yes, I know. I have never thought this would be an issue until today.

Bolt = Nut + stud

I just wonder why this clause is even in the rule book, and why is it clarified at this point. It is really a comfort and convienent item to "me" than anything else. Now, it will be really sucks to pull those puppies out. I don't even know where to get "bolts" to work with the spacer and the wheels...

Maybe I/we need to write a letter?

It's not an issue. Maybe my comment (above) wasn't clear, but wheel studs are still OK. Save your postage.

Don't panic.

Read it again, carefully. Conversion between bolts and studs is not allowed...except as allowed by 13.4 (which allows you to change a wheel bolts to studs).

The clarification is just saying that you can't convert from a bolt to a stud anywhere else besides the wheels. Someone wanted to replace the engine head bolts with a high strength stud kit on his STS car, and wanted to know whether studs and bolts were considered similar items under the terms of the fastener replacement rule.

What a life saver! Thank you for the explanation guys!
