Progress in the parking lot.

Well I ended up in 3rd place in Super Stock.

It wasn't pretty but I had a fun day. Guess thats what it's all about.

This was my 3rd event and I removed all of the shims except the ABS one.

It made a huge difference.

Looks like fun! I was hoping to swing by and check it out but had family in town. Looks like you were starting to get her to lean a bit and your girlfriend looks a bit freaked out...

No kidding. How many cones were you planning to destroy?

Jerry, I've seen your car. A little blue tape would have saved you a lot of those black scuffs

I just got the Starshield replaced. I'm not about to go scuff it up. The tape is terrible looking. I'm trying to find black. The vette guys don't even tape. At least I know at the end of the day I have a perfectly good looking finish.

If anyone has any suggestions on what to use please let me know.

I mowed down like 7 cones on the fourth run.

I used material for lining shelves which I got from Home Depot. It is made of vinyl. You can cut it to any size you want. It can be reposition and remove afterwards just like the blue tape.
Below is link to a pictures posted by Cory (post #24). I used the clear version and you could see the wrinkles. My car is number 77.

I think this is it: Con-Tact 18 in x24 ft

In all seriousness, the cone scuffs are fairly easy to get off clear-coated finishes on a normal car. They are impossible to get off Starshield, and the Lotus body design makes it more vulnerable to cone damage.

I learned the hard way after autocrossing, and destroying the Starshield. The cones rip and scuff it up, and I just ended up removing it since I didn't discover painter's tape soon enough. It's not so much an issue given the body designs on most other cars.....just another example of how Lotus is different.

Jerry is a very experienced, excellent autocrosser in his Elise. Like others of his ilk, their cars wear their cone scars as "badges of honor." Some of us like to play and still have the car look halfway decent. It takes about 15 minutes to apply and much less time to remove the tape, which is well worth it for many of us.

Of course, if it is important for you to demonstrate that you are "muy macho" by going tapeless, that's OK too.

P.S. your car is not stock legal with the Sport ECU and Snorkel Delete. I hope you ok'd it with your local class competitors.
