Removing air conditioning in Super Stock?
Would it be possible to remove the air conditioning and stay legal in super stock? I am pretty sure it could be subtracted at the factor and I never use A/C. Wondering if the saved weight and engine friction would be worth it.
Thanks, Chris More |

not legal. I don't think. Street Prepared allows it. You can download the SCCA rules on their website

why?
Why is it illegal if the air conditioning can be subtracted from the factory? I was legally allowed to add LSS wheels/shocks/oil cooler since the sport package was an option. I'll check out the rules.
Thanks, Chris |

It's Legal!
This is a direct copy/paste from the SCCA Solo Rules:
AIR CONDITIONING Stock class cars with optional air conditioning are allowed to compete without the belt in place. Additionally, the entire air conditioning system may be removed, but any related components (springs, radiator, etc.) that are part of an air conditioning package must be returned to standard parts for the standard model (non-air conditioned). Removal of part of the air conditioning system is allowed only if no other components for the car differ between model’s equipped with and without air conditioning, i.e., springs, radiator, etc. Air conditioning may be added to any car as a “comfort and convenience” item, provided it serves no other purpose and other components are not added or deleted unless otherwise authorized by the current Solo Rules. If a factory option, may be removed and backdated as an assembly or separate components of the system may be removed (i.e., individual under-hood components only). |

You need to check the SCCA rule book But I think it goes something like this: if you can find one example of a federal elise with ac delete from the factory it is legal (as long as you can replicate the exact "option package".
The reality is though unless you are loosing by several thousandths of a second, why bother. I think it will seriously reduce resale as well. The experts on scca forums should probably be consulted...

i had my 06 exige with factory AC delete and everyone went on about resale value, even my dealer was unsure about it, car sold in a day or two at the asking price. its the right kind of marque and there are enough people that want the ac delete option to make it not a problem.
