SCCA Nationals Videos

First, here are the course maps-

We (Elises in SS and FP) ran the North Course on Tuesday and the South Course on Wednesday. Tuesday was a lot more rainy. The last cars in SS were running in rapidly drying conditions in the morning.

The map of the North Course is accurate for Super Stock runs, as the course layout was modified in the 3rd heat. When I ran, it was with a modified course.

Please if you can, right mouse click and saveas and then play. If you can't play WMV files, let me know.

I linked to one of Junior's runs in those drying conditions, you can still see a lot of water. Here, 37 megs, WMV file

Later we ran the Elise in FP and I am including a run as it was getting dark. The ChaseCam has a very low lux so it does not look as dark as I recall it being. I know without my headlights, the cones were hard to pick out.
Here, 32 megs, WMV file

This is THE FAST RUN on Wednesday in Super Stock.. note Junior yelling at himself (as he told us he was going to do). You have to admire his confidence going up to the line...
51 megs WMV file

And here is a video of a CSP Miata with dual ChaseCams on it. Set to music.
Here, 39megs, WMV file

All of these were recorded directly to Compact Flash Cards using a medium resolution of 320x240 and then converted to WMV and made larger.

In the 'north course', how to the 'evasive action' and 'decision point' sections work - are those slaloms where you get to choose what side to enter on?

Yes, those were optional slaloms. The "evasive action" slalom was an obvious decision, starting on the left gave you the better line on both entry and exit. The "decision point" was indeed exactly that. I personally chose the left (outside) of the first cone, but I'm not much of a reference... Taking the inside might have given you a better position on the next right-hander. But it looked to me like while the position was better, you would be pointed in the wrong direction, and would have to turn more. I thought that the outside line would flow much better than the inside.

Note that Junior chose the inside. I chose the outside. I think.

It is that hard to see the course while you are in the car?

No it's easier. The camera is pointed straight ahead, but your head (if your doing it right), is looking to the sides, way around into the next corner or beyond. But yes, it's that fast.

Randy, this seems like an okay spot for this question: Was there any sound testing at Nationals? After we installed a new QS on Doug's car last night, I got confirmation first hand that my 1st generation QS is louder, and I started thinking about Topeka. Also, what exhaust was on the pumpkin?

Thanks for any word back.

No, there is no sound limits at Nationals. Some cars are incredibly loud.

The only place where I have seen noise restrictions around here was Kansas City. They hold events on the parking lot of Arrowhead Stadium (nice site), and had noise regulations this year. It wasn't very strict, though, nothing that would be a problem for a Stock car. Some of the Prepared cars were more muffled than usual.

Nationals will be at a different site next year, but I still wouldn't expect any issues. Instead of an airport (which is noisy anyway), it will be at the road course (which is noisy anyway). Sites with noise restrictions mostly seem to be parking lots in proximity to residential areas.
