Want to autoX in Southern California advice

I've done a lot of track days (LCS, speed ventures, etc) but would like to try autocross. Can anybody lead me to where I can get info on events in SoCal? What is required in terms of safety equipment? How do the classifications work? If someone is doing an upcoming event, let me know. I'd love to have a fellow LT'er out there with me to show me the ropes.

There's really only two places to go both run by SCCA. Cal Speedway and Qualcom. There's an occasional event at El Toro airbase. Not sure who's competing in LA. Randy Chase and a few others compete in San Diego.

A great opportunity will be at the WCLM in Vegas. The GGLC will be organizing the autocross and they do a great job. You'll be going against a bunch of other Lotus cars. Some hardcore racers and some there just to have fun.

cheers,
Jacob

Do I have to be a card carrying member of the scca? What about at Qualcom? Any websites I can go to to find more info?

You'll have to join each region you decide to run with and I think a club. Robert Puertas would be the best one to ask. It's been a couple of years for me, so I don't remember the particulars.

Here's the website for Calclub:
California Sports Car Club - Solo - SCCA

I'm just starting out with my Elise SC. I've entered my first competition at California Speedway on the 25th. The people in the club seem friendly and willing to give advice. Getting the classification right has been a bit of a problem for me because of the supercharger. I've entered into ASP but also PAX NOVICE. I'm still not sure if that is right but I guess I'll find out on the 25th. Come on out and check it out. I'll be happy to share anything I learn. Look for the ice white Elise (#234) with the confused guy hanging around it!

Come out with me the next event. I have been recently again running in Los Angeles too.

We are done at El Toro for 2009. We have some events coming up in Fontana. And yes, at Qualcomm. All good venues.

You'll be running with John (drj1) with his Elise SC in ASP. There was another 2007 Exige S in ASP (street tires, also another class) but he recently sold his car. Two other Elises (Chrome Orange & some sort of green-Randy Chase's former car) also runs in ASP.

I have an '05 NA Elise and will be running in SS (Super Stock) with semi-race compound (R888 tires) with open diff & no T/C.

See you threre.

Tony

I intend on running these events-

October 25 Championship Fontana
Nov 8 San Diego
Nov 15th Fontana ???
Nov 27th Fontana ???
Nov 29th Fontana ???

There is a school event on Nov 14th at Fontana and I recommend newer people take advantage of this. It will sell out

California Sports Car Club - Solo - SCCA

Note practices typically sell out and sometimes very rapidly, as in a couple days.
