What's the thinking on Goodyear cantilevered slicks for autocross these days?
Just wondering for next year. I'm in XP 'cause of my turbo so I should get the stickiest tires I can, I guess. How much faster will they be that Hoosiers? Cost? Sizes?
Any input is welcome. ![]()

If it's hot, they're definitely the fastest. If it's cold, you won't have much luck with them.
Are you asking about Nationals or just in general?

In my region, we do have cold days, like this weekend, but in the summer, where most of the events are held, it's brutally hot.

No idea on costs. However those that can run them generally do. So they must be faster when you can get some heat in them.

I hated the fact that the cantilevered slicks needed one run to get enough heat into them to work. And if it is cold, forget it.
This means your three runs was only two runs to get it done.

Since I'm only interested in competeing in my region, and we generally get 8 runs/day, this might not be that big of a deal to me. The only other regional events I will likely go to would be Wendover and possibly Packwood again. I'm the only XP car in my region so my only goal for next year is to be the fastest RAW time in vehicles with doors and a windsheild. I'm close, but there are still a couple of cars in my sights. Randy, if I decided to give it a try next year just for the hell of it, were do I get them and how do I interpret the sizing? What pressures did you use.

Hoosier makes these also. you want the 23x8.5x15" and 23x9.5x15" The hoosiers are R35s and the Goodyears are R250s. This is the softest compound available and its not that soft. I think you should really use A6s. Based on Jason's results at nationals. I think you would get good first runs and not sacrifice any ultimate grip because they are softer tire. 225x45R15s front are 9.1" wide. You may have some rubbing but can play with it. Rears you could either stretch a 245x40R17 on a 9" wheel or try a 275x35R15 back there. Lower diameter by an inch will help keep you on boost more. For custom wheels call Rich Bogart at Bogart Racing wheels at 602-353-6648, tell him I sent you.

Thanks. Maybe that's the ticket. If I'm going to compete in XP, I sould look at wider Hoosiers rather than slicks. The last two years I was running 205/245.
If you don't mind me asking, what wheels and tires do you run?

No problem, however remember I have cut the hell out of my clam to fit what I am running, which is currently Hoosier Radial slicks. 23.5x11x16 in the front and 23.5x12x16 in the rear. These tires come in the R25B compound, which is softer and better than R35A. I think one of the A6 combos I mentioned gets you nearly all the way there. The wheels are 16x10" in the front with 16x11.5" in the rear.
