I also live in Grants Pass and can certainly echo all of 1TowMan's sentiments. Grants Pass has it's own micro-climate and the immediate area around here has awesome weather.
I frequently commute to Portland (NEVER seem to have time to make it to the weekly gathering) and have to echo the weather observations already mentioned above. Grew up in the Bay Area and any time other than July-August, Portland's weather make's S.F. look like heaven.
Of course there are two race tracks almost in the middle of town so that is a big plus - especially if you drive like Senna in the rain.
As to Crime - I am told that Portland has the highest number of strip clubs per capita than any other city in the U.S. and the medium rate crimes seem to follow it.
I am currently pondering relocating more Northerly and am looking at Cottage Grove, Eugene, and Corvallis areas. Closer to Portland without the rain. Check it out!
Thank you for the suggestions, gentlemen. I will have to check them out.
