Elise autocross

Came in 28th overall all out of 71. Its been a while since I've autocrossed with the Elise but it felt good to be back.
This was at Evergreen speedway and its pretty cool because there's no cone duty, you get 12 official laps, and there's bonus laps afterwards!
I'm getting good at catching the car when the rear starts to slip and you can see it on this video!

Whoa, that's a wild looking auto-x site. Lots of walls. That must not have been an SCCA sanctioned event.

Its not. Broken up into 3 classes based on awd, fw, or rw. If you hit a cone, your run is dq'd.

Looks fun. Definitely looks like you could shave a lot of time off by being a little more aggressive, but still looked really fun.

To me this seems like an understatement; that was a great save.

Every now and then I look on youtube to find lotus videos and the most recent one that I watched (the gentlemen: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwL...iFl7U6LKLOGe9w also, how can I link to youtube without embedding the video? ) ended quite different from yours and left me with mild anxiety. It was from a person who seems to be following the 'get famous on youtube with a car' shtick and filmed themselves at their first track day crashing their lotus after progressively pushing limits of controlling the car. I am quite sympathetic to this in spite of them acting goofy for the camera because the car is a yellow S2 elise just like mine and because I could see myself making the same mistake.

That's the sketchiest auto cross course I've ever seen. Looks fun but I would be too stressed out about hitting a wall to push the car

I felt the same about the course but its not as bad as it looks.
The one part I do not push is going into the finish line corner. But they do a pretty good job to make sure its slow enough.

I've been good about not lifting but I failed this past weekend. At the end of a slalom, I lifted. BAD LOTUS DRIVER, BAD!
I also felt like the Elise gets the most love at autocross or at least where I go. There's a viper, r32, and a new zo6 but people definitely gravitate towards the lotus.
A lot of them love the look and the philosophy behind the car.

Now only if the driver would be good as the car................................

Give it time, the car is much more capable than 99% of us. I'm still astounded when I have an Oh Crap moment where I come in too hot and the car responds beautifully. I keep pushing harder and the elise keeps asking for more.

That being said, you're a little late on your turn ins, especially on the slalom. If you get your turn in squared away and get on the throttle a bit earlier, you'll start shaving time quickly.

Fun looking course. Would scare the crap out of me with all the solid objects so close.

I'm in the same boat with learning not to lift. it's a lot harder to learn than it looks. I love autocross in the sense that it's a great way to experiment and get used to it.

great job on the save by the way

Hey Spartacus,

How often do they run events at Evergreen race way? If all goes well, I may want to come play next year.

Thanks

Its about once a month and its all year long! Just had one last weekend and it's probably the last one for the Lotus. I'll be driving the mini cooper s during fall/winter season.
You can follow evergreenspeed way on facebook to get notice of when to sign up. Summer ones were selling out within hours! Winter ones don't sell out as fast though.
