More photos from Specialty Car Craft.

One of our customers brought his brand new Ferrari 458 Italia in for some customization. We painted the original silver brake calipers in the Ferrari Signature "Giallo" Yellow along with the Ferrari Carbon Ceramic Brake graphics straight from the factory. We re-painted the original silver sport wheels in Gunmetal Gray. And we refinished all of the stock chrome emblems in a Black Chrome finish to once again add another touch of personalization to the car.

The Jaguar E-type is recreated in the shape of the Swedish designed, V8 powered Growler.

By James Downham of evo magazine.
08th March 2011

"Swedish car design firm Vizualtech has confirmed it will build a very limited run of its Growler, inspired by the legendary Jaguar E-type. Its current plans are that only a few of these super rare ‘cat copies’ will be produced. The increasingly common modernised classic styling (see Mini Cooper, Fiat 500, Ford GT et al) will be coupled with the heart of the existing Jaguar XKR.

Jaguar’s supercharged 5.0-litre V8 already boasts a substantial 503bhp, but Vizualtech promises some choice tweaks that are said to provide 600bhp and a sub-4sec 0-60mph time.

This V8-powered recreation will simply be named ‘Growler’, which suggests American muscle despite the car being British-powered and Swedish-designed.

Back in 1961, the E-type was the fastest road car you could buy, however in the world of the Bugatti Veyron and Lamborghini Aventador, the Growler won’t be breaking any speed records. It could, however, break the bank: a 700,000 US Dollar estimate (nearly £450,000) is surely not a befitting memory to the heroic E-type that cost £2256 back in 1961. That price today converts to around £38,000. A Porsche Boxster rather than a Carrera GT, in other words.

The huge price estimate could rise if the number of cars produced stays in single figures, but all this pales into insignificance when you consider what the Growler is truly trying to replicate. The Jaguar E-type is surely a contender for one of the greatest sports cars of all time. With a stratospheric price tag and questionable looks (and that name), the Growler might remain in the vast shadow of its inspiration."

Aston Martin Racing launches new AMR-One race car.

Aston is back with a high-tech prototype racer, but will it be enough to match the diesel-powered front runners?

By Matthew Hayward of evo magazine.
02nd March 2011

This Gulf-liveried AMR-One is Aston's new Le Mans racer, designed and built from the ground up by engineers at Aston Martin Racing. Opting for an open-cockpit carbon fibre monocoque, the AMR-One also features 2011's most popular aerodynamic appendage, the 'blade-fin'. Just six will be made, with a pair of factory works cars competing at selected events throughout the year.

In a bid to take advantage of the efficiency-led regulations, brought in for the 2011 LMS season (which is also designed to close the huge performance gap between petrol and diesel entries), Aston Martin Racing has created a brand new 2-litre straight-six engine, producing approximately 540bhp - thanks to direct injection and a huge turbocharger! Power is transmitted to the wheels through an Xtrac six-speed, semi-automatic racing gearbox; with braking handled by all-round Brembo six pot calipers and carbon-ceramic discs.

Piloting the 007 car throughout 2011 will be Darren Turner (GB), Stefan Mücke (D) and a third driver still to be announced. Adrian Fernandez (MX), Andy Meyrick (GB) and Harold Primat (CH) will be teaming up to drive the 009 car, which is scheduled to make appearances at a limited number of races throughout the season.

The team is hoping that 007 will make its racing debut at the Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 16-19; going on to contend the full seven-round Intercontinental Le Mans Cup in the US, Belgium, Italy, France, the UK and China.

Aston Martin Racing Chairman and founder of Prodrive, David Richards said: “George and the team have been extremely busy over the winter months and they have been working day and night to produce what is not only a stunningly beautiful race car but one which will use the new ACO regulations to best effect. Just like the road cars, the AMR-One has been elegantly engineered where simplicity runs throughout to produce what we expect to be a competitive and reliable endurance racer.”

Some of my own photos of the SCC JaguarXJ220S street car.

It's in the new Specialty Car Craft building, currently under construction on La Cienega Blvd. just north of our original shop.

I just put a treasure in our window, an original fluorescent Lotus sign. You can't miss it as you drive by.

Thanks to all of the people who have brought their Lotus cars to us lately. It is so nice to be able to talk to all of you.
